I had both the Maven C1 10x42 and the Vortex Viper HD 10x50. I liked every aspect of the C1's better except the image resolution at the outer edges of the picture. Other than that in my opinion the C1 is the superior binocular and represents a pretty nice savings!

I have Maven C1 8x42 and just got back from late season elk hunt in AZ. I thought they performed great on the hunt and were as good or better than my dads Leupold BX4s. I added the winged eye cups from field optics research and those make a huge difference to the ergonomics IMO. The eye cups drove me nuts until I got those things.

One highlight I noticed with my C1s compared to those Leupolds, a set of Vortex Kaibabs, and a set of nikons was that the Mavens did the best at limiting glare while glassing into the sun. Overall I was really pleased with the C.1 and would not hesitate to buy another pair of them.

Bringing this back to the top because I am debating between the two.

would you say the maven c1s are better then or equal to the vipers ?

Since you brought it back to the top, I wouldn't recommend either so long as the Leupold BX-4 Pro Guides are still on clearance at Midway. They are better than both of those in several ways. Of the two you asked about, the C1's have better optics but a dreadfully narrow field of view. The Vipers have a wider field of view and better eyecups, but the optics don't equal the C1's.

IME, the BX-4's have the optical quality of the C1's (if not slightly better contrast and depth of field) with better build and ergonomics and warranty.
