Purchased a new Vertix today with the 60 lb, 85 let off mods. Kind of an impulse buy, cheaper than the VXR. I’m surprised at the stiffness of the draw and I’m at the lowest setting. My shoulders and elbow have always been sensitive to harsh draws but usually Hoyt cams, not Mathews. That said I couldn’t put it down tonight as it was hammering the target out to some long ranges. Guys shooting this, does it smooth out with reps? My other bow is a HTR, which was pretty smooth in comparison.

I personally think that every bow you shoot for a while becomes smooth to you because your muscle memory takes over and you "remember" where in the draw cycle the weight changes. I also think its highly subjective. Someone else who shoots the vertix might think it's the smoothest bow they have ever shot.

I say give it some time and build that muscle memory.

My vertix is so smooth compared to my Hoyt Carbon spyder turbo. Now I have upped the weight to 75 lbs ts is stiff with a hump at the back but still better than the Hoyt. Love the vertix.

I’ll say it holds like a dream. I kept going back in 10 yard increments and it shot well out to 70. I’ll stick with it. I read it can be turned down at the bolts, the mods are peak weight.

I have owned mostly Hoyts, and last year I was interested in the traverse and vertix. When shot the vertix, it seemed to hold the best and feel the best post-release, but the draw cycle did not cooperate with my shoulders either. If I could have the Vertix feel on the traverse draw cycle I would have purchased one last year. I objectively feel like it was more unpleasant of a draw compared to a spyder turbo.

Just got my Traverse and ill say after being out of the game for about 7 years or so it's THE smoothest drawing bow I've ever drawn!

Try a bowtech revolt...its the smoothest drawing bow I have had. My back up and previous bow was a no cam, which is a smooth drawing bow.

The Vertix that I owned was the stiffest drawing bow I’ve ever owned. It was the main reason that I ended up selling it because I never got comfortable with its draw cycle.

It had 60 pound mods on it and it drew much harsher than my 70# Hoyt RX3, and my 70# Bowtech RealmX.

Do we pull bows differently,is our anatomy different,are we used to different things?
I have no idea,my first compound is a Vertix,and I have not shot enough other bows to have an opinion.
But it is rather interesting me thinks.
And definitely reinforces what everyone says,try as many bows as you can and buy the one you like.

Bows are so subjective in the strangest ways. For example, some people are obsessed with “hand shock.” I have a buddy who thinks shooting my Prime is just awful. I’m not even sure I could tell you what hand shock is. He shouts an RX carbon something and I can barely draw it despite both of our bows being 70lb.

Bows are weird. Voodoo science all over.

And sometimes what feels bad the first few draws feels normal after a bit of shooting. I’m going to turn the bolts out 1 turn and see how it feels.

Say someone loves a bow’s draw cycle @28,5” but his friend absolutely hates it at 30.5”.
I thought that was rather interesting,and it does make sense.

Although most things makes sense when you lack knowledge and experience

I love mine, shoots great, zero hand shock and stupid quiet.

So long as you have a shop local that can work in them and tune them they are great bows.

Problem with any bow is they need a mechanic. Strings are like tires, they need to be replaced periodically. Bow also needs a tune-up every so often, usually just with a string change, or anytime you change arrows or rest. You really need a local shop that knows whichever bow you choose. Or buy all your own equipment to work on them yourself, ultimately that's the best thing but it can be expensive and daunting to learn.

Really if you just like 3D or whatever you should have a target bow. The whole experience will be better.

Any recommendations? Hoyt looks like they make some pretty nice target bows. We do have a shop here that could basically service anything I buy so I am fortunate in that regard.
