Try doing it with 4runners.
I was talking with a buddy of mine that works in used cars. I have an 01 Tundra with 191000 on it. I asked him what he thought I could get out of it and he said 7500-8500 which is more than I paid for it 10 years ago. I would like a 4runner, so I went, checked and promptly decided that I will still be the proud owner of a 2001 Tundra with 191,000 miles.
I was looking at the same, I have a 2002 sr5 tundra as well, similar miles. Was wanting to get a 05 or so 4runner with the v8 or just sell it to hunt around for an older similar year 3.4 v6 runner.
I think the car market is up 38% or so and for me in northwest MT 4x4 pick ups etc have always fetched a premium.
Local Toyota dealership is constantly wiped out.

Whoever is paying these prices are insane. Just drive what ya got and let the market return to normal. I paid less than that for my 2016 way back in 2019 with less miles.
Sorry, but this is the new normal. Dealer pricing is going nowhere but up for new vehicles. Used vehicles may see a downward adjustment, maybe, but there's no guarantee.

Anyone that has spent any time in Canada knows how this all goes, housing prices, vehicle prices. What we're seeing here has been there for 15years at least. The more socialistic a place becomes the higher the prices get.
We are right behind our northern neighbors with inflation and pricing insanity for everything.

A buyer is far better off buying new than used at a dealer. A 2018 4Runner will list on average for about 40-41K for a more base model. A person can buy a new model for the same money or less.
It's all expensive, but used cars are a terrible investment right now.

Yep, any decent deal will sell in short order, I looked for many months and finally found a gen.1 tundra I wanted.
2005 SR5 DC 4x4, it's from Wyoming so no rust, 140, 000 miles, paid just under 11k.

Sure, if people keep OVERPAYING it will be. When people stop being ultra consumers and buying new trucks at WAY over what they are worth just because they want one now the supply will no longer be outstripped by demand. When there is more supply than demand the price drops, economics 101.

But it’s not the norm, i’ll never buy at the current prices.

Totally agree on your first thoughts... but it isn't going to stop anytime soon. Regardless of the covid insanity, lock-downs, firings/resignations and inflation people have a ton of cash sidelined and they want to spend it.

It absolutely doesn't compute, but it's reality, and the new normal at least for the foreseeable future.

See my point about being “ultra consumers”. It’s beyond stupid to have cash on hand that you just NEED to spend it as opposed to you know, save it maybe????

The population is getting dumber by the year no wonder society is what it is.

My son just sold his 2001, access cab with a cap, 4WD Tundra last month for 11k. Pretty clean, basic truck, with only a few minor dings, and just under 190k miles.

I'll be selling mine, same exact 2001 truck with TRD 4WD. 162K air bags, 10 plies, winter tires too...was thinking 8K, maybe I'm way low?

Pretty much the exact same one I have. Dang good pickups, mine is just starting to get old and needs stuff fixed. It basically is coming down to is it cheaper to keep her or ditch it and get something newer, bigger and less miles. It was my first vehicle that I had in college, so it has been neglected simply because I was broke as shit.
