One of my favorite parts of Rokslide is that you can find reviews or get honest feedback on just about anything, and truck threads (tires specifically) seem to pop up frequently. A lot of truck threads focus on accessories, and the accessory that I’ve found most useful for my truck is a solidly made tonneau cover.

I've been using and testing to hardshall retractable tonneau covers over the last year: Peragon’s Landmark hard retractable cover and EGR’s Rolltrac electric retractable cover.

I’ll review both of them here, but not as a direct comparison. Certainly, they’re different covers for different uses and in different price brackets, so they don’t offer an apples-to-apples comparison. I’m reviewing them together more as a one-stop-look at two fantastic hard-cover retractable tonneau options for those who need durability, security, and protection from the elements.

Spoiler Alert: both are fantastic.

Why have I never heard of that Peragon cover before? That seems like a solid option, with a much more favorable price point versus RollTrac or Retrax options.

Following this - in the market to replace a worn out soft cover.

That Peragon looks interesting. I am a Diamondback guy for now though. One thing I would be interested in from your reviews is how much space is lost due to the space the folded up top takes up. How far forward do you have to leave space for you to still be able to easily fold and unfold the top. Drive around with stuff in the bed and see if it is constantly sliding forward making it difficult to fold up the top without having to climb in there somehow and move the items.

An electric roll up bed cover? Have city people got that lazy and weak they can’t roll back a cover to put groceries, golf clubs or bags of dirt in the bed.
Ford Ranger forum I’m on. A “man” bought a trailer to haul things in because he didnt want to scratch the bed :ROFLMAO:

Anyway, I went diamond back. Looked at the peragon and I was concerned about things, falling back and keeping the cover from closing.

Wish I had bought it or a hard tri fold. The DB while built to perfection and pretty damn water resistant, renders an already tiny bed even more useless.

Hell, is that a new model? I didn't see that when I bought the SE for my 2021 ranger

I had a manual retractable hard cover for the first couple of years I owned my Tacoma. It was like a gator track or something .
99% of the time it was helpful and was super nice having everything covered and locked, but the 1% of the time the roll canister was in the way and it was a major pain.
About three years into owning one of the bearings got off track and it never would close

Wound up scrapping it and haven’t looked back

I use the Truck Covers USA American Roll Cover. It’s not inexpensive, but has been flawless since 2018.

I bought a BAKFLIP for my back up truck about a year ago. Tough as nails and lets a very small amount of water in during a downpour. It was fairly cheap and nothing super fancy but works great. I'm sure if I got industrious, I could find the small leak and fix it but I'm not worried about it.

Not to derail but I've have an SE on my F150 and am thinking of putting some thin-ish foam insulation on the inside of the flip tops. They get hot even here in Wyoming in the sun. Might keep the bed a little cooler in Summer ??

Great post. I too love the equipment reviews. One question, do either of these products reduce the clearance inside the bed. I currently have a roll type cover that mounts inside the bed rail. It's a great cover, but with it being inside the rails I lost some clearance between the floor and the cover when closed. This affected being able to store two large coolers. Thanks!

No height clearance issues until you’re dealing with the back of the box. Then, you run into the Rolltrac’s canister or the folding space for the Peragon. But when closed, both give you clearance flush with the top of the existing rails.

I have a Paragon that I found on FB Marketplace- overall it's good. I do have some complaints with the bedspace it uses when it's closed (6' bed) and that I can't retract it if I have stuff in my bed towards the front. Even a shovel is a pain in the ass to retract the cover. I know the Rolltrac would have similar issues. I had a cheap tri-fold before that I preferred as it was easy to remove when hauling stuff.
