This will start some fires...

Go look at any thread where the guys are lined up to worship at the altar of Toyota and I wade in with my frame rust and leaf spring experience...Like preaching to liberals with facts instead of opinions. I still feel sorry for the sucker that bought my 2006 Tacoma with the rust holes in the frame while his buddies all told him 'It'll outlast you!' and 'just gittin broke in!'.

One opinion that used to get shouted down and not so much anymore is that muzzle brakes make you a better shooter...They're for looks, and if you're honest with yourself, they make you a worse shooter and kids definitely shouldn't shoot with a brake.

On the subject of meat...I much prefer the flavor of sirloin over ribeye. Fat is not the equivalent of flavor.

Commonly held belief that I don’t agree with:

1) hunting brand clothing is better for hunting… Most hunters just don’t have a clue. Nearly anything outside of very, very niche needs are done better and cheaper by hiking, climbing, or etc companies. Hunting companies seem to take an old tec, integrate some gimmick like active carbon, and upsale the item with a camo finish. This is especially true for western backpack hunting.

2) scent control is important… Scent control for eastern white tail might as well be a virgin sacrifice followed by a rain dance.

3) rigid heavy boots are necessary in the west… totally false. Overbuilt boots are probably why liner socks even exist.

4) merino wool is warm when wet… total myth, wet is wet. Moisture conducts heat.

5) X2 for beef tasting better… no shade on game meat intended, but game meat tastes better because you have a relationship with it and worked for it. You have a bias. You eat it because you enjoy hunting. Take hunting out of the equation and it’s not as enjoyable. If you bought a $50 steak from a restaurant and got a game animal most would be very upset. Besides, the game animal you get is kind of a lottery on its flavor profile. I don’t know anyone buying beef who ranks “inconsistent flavor” as a selling point.

I shot my oryx on WSMR in NM a couple weekends ago using a 7mm WSM with a break.

First shot was quartering away, hit high just under the spine. 2nd shot was to finish it off at 50 yds after running only 100 or so before going down.

Finishing shot I heard the bullet smack it just under the ear where I was aiming.

Both shots were standing from shooting sticks (good luck finding a way to shoot prone most of the time).

And...I didn't even get concussed!!! Walked out just fine to the truck 3/4 mile away. No headache, no nausea.

Still no headache and no ringing in my ears.

Stupid muzzlebreaks

PS - I would've looked stupid walking around wearing a motorcycle helmet to protect me from the ELE shockwave...

Nice quote. I think that is what Chris Bee said just before he wounded a buffalo to death. FOC is a Fear of Change without knowledge.

I cant tell if you are agreeing or not? Not sure where 'Chris bee' stands on FOC. Did he use a light weight arrow or heavy arrow and wound a buffalo?

So i will explain my thoughts a little more, for either agreeing or not with me.

I think FOC is one piece of the pie. Example: a prius (350gn total arrow weight) might be able to tow 10,000 lbs, but a diesel pickup (500 total arrow weight) would be a better option and an 18wheeler (650+ total arrow weight) would be overkill in the scenario of 'towing' 10,000lbs.

Use the right tool for the job. Prius could have the best and newest parts and all the bells and whistles, but still not to the right thing to use.

Far shots on tiny animals, lower arrow weight and lower foc. Shooting buffalo from close distance and need penetration, higher arrow weight and higher foc.

This had to come from outfitters/guides that just want it to be over with and get clients out of camp after the tip is paid of course

I think it came from folks being remorseful over eating a tag or shooting a dink when they passed a nice buck/bull/whatever early on.
