Unknown tikka action mod issues…

Maybe go look at the ULUL thread and spend your time and money with one of those builds?
Yeah that. Or do something unique with a coating (we do nitride and DLC as one example), maybe combined with a unique bolt fluting if you must, and leave the main action body alone.

That certainly makes the most sense. Despite that good advise, I have a melting brain that wants to goof around with my rifle and I'll probably do something even if its stupid.
I get that. I answered realistically about just nitride it to save potential headaches for little gain in regards to lightening it. Along with the negatives of an action more exposed to the elements.

Frankly the action lightening with a sportsmatch hole provision did not go smoothly for me whatsoever. You stated you wanted to use sportsmatch rings, I tried to politely steered you away from a potential frustrating situation.

Of course, I appreciate the prudent advise.

Bringing this back.

Has anyone had the mods done lately? Curious if the 10 weeks for the nitride is still accurate for the lead time.

I did 2 actions without modification and just had them nitrided. I agree , I think the nitrided action is “ stickier” than it was before. Both are stainless and there is more resistance on those after nitride than on a factory blued Tikka that I compared it to and a stainless that I had cerekoted. I am hoping they break in with cycling the actions a bunch.
@Dunky did your nitride action smooth out? Been 2 years, hope it’s smoothed out 🤣

Mine shipped today, 12 weeks with nitride, barrel fluting and barreled action cerakote

Make sure you check inside the bolt body and blow out the bolt head really well.

I had another company do one of mine and the bolt face was full of blasting media. Put it together and it was binding bad and felt super clunky.

After going through it, it looked like some of that blasting material got coated (just my guess) and ended up in the front of the bolt body, messing with the firing pin/cocking assembly.

Going to try to clear it with a copper bore brush tomorrow.

Yeah. They are good now. Feel slightly “slicker” than an untreated stainless I have at this point.
