Unknown Suppressors 22LR Cans

I’m a little at a time getting suppressors for everything. If the tax stamp goes away even better.

How loud compared to a 556 K can on a scale of 1-5?
With 1 being "she's a bit loud but she's mine and I can tolerate her" and 5 being "f n a she's a loud witch"
We shot several rounds of 5.56 out of the 5.25" can, 14" Barrel AR. there was a 6" fireball that came out of it and it was really loud. @Ryan Avery is going to be shooting one on his bolt .223 and will report back what he thinks.

I’m sure interested in this too. When I was doing the silincershop stuff today I picked up a 16” t1x in 17hmr to go with my 22. Because it’s what my store had at the time/times I’ve ended with four DA masks. I use them on 22’s pistol and rifles and a 17wsm. I like them fine but very open minded about trying something else for this hmr. Two friends have the lighter ti models. One is the OCL and it sounds as good as mine but weighs less. The other has a different one and I like mine better. His might be a Hux brand but don’t hold me to it. I can rob a mask off a 10/22 until these get sorted out so no big need.

Are there self contained or more like the huxwrks where you put the whole can into a cleaning solution?

Curious from folks who have a variety of these type of cans what is involved with cleaning a rimfire can. How frequently do they need cleaning, what equipment needed, etc. A rimfire can is my next purchase.
Also, how are these threaded and what is standard attachment for rimfire cans?

The production Gnat will not have a taper.
Is this referring to the bottleneck at the gun-end of the suppressor, or did a proto have a lengthwise taper, or something to do with attachment? Could not tell from the photo, wasnt sure what you meant. Is this just a visual consideration? If so its irrelevant to me, just wasnt sure what this means.

I only have the Banish 22. I clean it approximately every 500 rounds. At that point it is generally filthy. I clean it by disassembling it outdoors, on a couple of layers of paper towels, while wearing disposable gloves. I have considered wearing a mask too, same as I would while working with insulation. It appears to be full of powdered lead, not just powder residue. I spray the parts with CLP, then scrub with a nylon brush. Then clean everything with paper towels and q-tips. Then it easily reassembles. Once done, I put everything into a plastic grocery bag and dispose of it in the dumpster. It probably takes me 20 minutes.

sounds messy, and lead exposure is a thing so the gloves and mask probably a good idea. Anyone know what is the process for cleaning a "soak it" can? What do you soak it in, etc?

It is no messier than cleaning a rimfire rifle or pistol, and quite a bit easier (I don’t generally clean the bore on a rimfire firearm, but I do clean the chamber and action).

The lead exposure from cleaning is “real.” The studies I saw indicated basically minuscule levels of lead in people who consumed wild game, but higher levels in those who cleaned firearms.

This is a good article on the topic:

A bit of basic google fu turned up huxworx Suppressor Sauce and Breakthrough Suppressor Cleaner. Found an MSDS for the suppressor cleaner, it is a 5-10% solution of dimethyl sulfoxide. By itself that chemical doesnt seem to be too toxic, but I did note that one of its main traits is that it is easily passed through biological tissue--ie anything dissolved in it will pass through your skin into your body.
    • Penetration Enhancement:
DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) can enhance the penetration of other substances through biological membranes, making it a useful vehicle for drug delivery.
So while it should be just like cleaning a gun, a lot more of the carbon and lead will be CAPTURED and concentrated inside the suppressor than if you were just shooting an unsuppressed gun, so seems like a much different animal. What do most folks do as far as cleaning, and what product do most folks use to clean suppressors, esp 22 suppressors that require much more frequent cleaning? It seems like it should be a manageable thing, and if anything a soak might be easier to avoid contact than if you need to disassemble and scrub.

I have 3 22lr suppressors - cleaning is my least favorite thing about them. One has titanium baffles, the others are steel.

I put the baffles in CLR for 30-60 min, then scrub clean. It’s not terrible, but if you go more than 500 rounds between cleanings, it’ll be more difficult.

How well does soaking clean these? Rimfire is way more filthy than centerfire ammo.
