Unknown Gnat/Midge 16” 223 heat?

Can anyone with experience comment on how fast these suppressors heat up and show mirage on 223 bolt guns?

I have seen others say “limited” use on 223. But after reading that they fired 100 223 rounds as fast as possible, I’m not sure why they used the word limited

I suspect its to keep the guys who only see 223 and want to toss it on an AR and abuse it.

I showed a buddy my nano and first thing out of his mouth was "well, if you cant mag dump, why?"

Totally missed the point, I have 15oz cans for that kinda use.

Because it wasn’t fully tested for 223 use. There is a test procedure that US uses for their cans, and the 22LR cans weren’t tested for it. So, they won’t say what the limits are.

One was used in a class and a half of S2H this year. It was a prototype that was used for burn downs, and still went 1,200 plus rounds on a 21” 223. The end cap did fail on that prototype- that is not the same as the production, but it took 100 round burn downs, a 90 round stress event, and 1,200 plus rounds of 223 to do it.

I would have little hesitation in using it in a 223 for normal hunting and normal range use.

Form, what’s the difference between the two? I guess, what is each of their pros and cons? And would you use one on a 22 creed?

The two what? The midge and the gnat? They are both 22lr designed cans that can tolerate some 223. Maybe they can tolerate 22creed as you're asking but even if they could I would wonder how well the sound performance actually is at that point. I'd tend to think buy something a bit more suited to 22creed even if its a bit larger/heavier/etc. if that is what you want to shoot and don't push it in terms of your ears. I could be off base here but that's my impression.

Form's comment above was about the structural integrity the way I read it and the context of the discussion. Maybe its decent for sound levels on a bolt 223 also but I'd explicitly clarify that versus merely assuming his comment also meant hearing safe 223 (esp. with some margin). Maybe I'm misreading your intent of the reply but I can see folks jumping to that conclusion and then if its functional but loud on 223 bitching about it case "form said so" when that isn't explicitly what he said above.

You assumed correct. I see that they are marketed and built as 22 lr cans. I’m just wondering if they could handle a 22 creed. I’m interested in them not necessarily to be hearing safe at the shooter, but rather taking the edge off to not blow out a canyon when shooting at an animal. To be clear, I don’t understand cans all that well to begin with. I just got my first a couple weeks ago. I’m just brainstorming to start building an ultra light deer gun in 22 creed and was curious.
