Almost certain you’re correct.

Is there a 7x45?

This was a blem 210gr 30 cal bullet next to my 6x45 brass. I stuffed it in there and I have one with a 162gr 7mm on my old bench. It’s a whole lotta bullet for a little bit of brass/powder. The 25-45 sharps would be your next best option. Plus factory ammo for those than need it.

I still think about the 24 nosler and believe it will stomp the arc and 6x45. More pressure than the arc with the rebated rim to fit standard 5.56 bolts. More powder capacity than the 6x45. It’s a win/win, but I think Nosler discontinued the cartridge.

I was mostly kidding there’s still a .22 cal hole in the barrel.

I’m not sure there’s a way to clean the chambers up. Certainly not one tha makes economic sense.

Could the bad barrels be rechambered in 6mm-Max? I can't find cartridge specifications but it looks like its got a higher shoulder than the 6mm-45.

Maybe, but only if the barrel could be set back in the extension enough, which it probably can't. The 6mm MAX case is 1.71" long compared to 1.75" for the 6x45, so it would not come close to taking care of the neck in these chambers, nor could it use the chamber as is.

I've thought about what could be done with these, and I just can't come up with anything practical. 25-45 Sharps is about the best I could come up with, and in the case of my barrel, the base of the chamber was so oversize, even that wouldn't be practical.

Unless I'm missing something, I think these barrels are pretty much check and mate as far as further use goes.

when I said 25 45 sharps i kind of forgot we are working with a 6mm bore for the barrel.

So with getting these rechambered, i am guessing that since we went with a spaghetti profile, reaming them enough to get past the neck with a proper chamber we would run in to thickness issues here?

No, they'd be okay there. They'd be pretty thin at the muzzle end after re-boring, but not dangerously so; the 25-45 Sharps has even more bore volume, so even less muzzle pressure.

The difficulty I think would be who would rebore and rechamber one, and how much would it cost? Not that there is no one, but I have no idea who would do that work.

i'm thinking more along the lines of new 6x45 camber or 6 max. Mostly theoretical, nut maybe. I have 1 load that shoots satisfactorily in my current barrel, but I am stoked to see what the properly chambered new barrel can do. I have heard lots of good reports on satern.

@Thegman have you got any bullets through a 6 max yet?

If you're meaning the full diameter portion of barrel, in front of the extension, being too short to set back the barrel enough, maybe that's the case, I'm not sure. Either way, if set back to much you then get into SBR territory.

I don't have a 6mm MAX barrel yet. Hopefully Satern will be doing it along with this batch of 6x45 barrels, but I'm not directly in the loop on that.
