I'm ready to order a 6x45 as well as a 6 ARC. Maybe even a Grendel for that matter. Any updates?
Faxon is 100 barrels minimum order quantities, working on price for 16" .223 wylde for a possible "premium"' option.

I have reached out to two other companies that I think may be more flexible on MOQ and calibers.

How about a portless 22arc and 6arc pencil barrel for those running the bear creek bolt action upper? 12 inch and 16 inch options.
The BCA bolt action really opens up the market for portless barrels. I saw them at SHOT, they aren't that bad actually as an upper. They just run a bushing over the gas port, so there is something to be gained from a portless.

I am going to add 22 ARC and 6 ARC to my inquiry.

If you all haven't seen, check out the reloading forum for a group buy on an annealer we are going to carry. Details are in the thread along with a link.

I’d be curious if you reached out to x-caliber for a group buy of barrels for a discounted rate. They may not be as light as other options, but I am extremely satisfied with mine. If the group rate is around $200/shipped barrel, that would be awesome. I have no interest in a 5.56 barrel over a 6x45. 5.56/223 barrels are already plentiful and gas blocks are a dime a dozen.

Also, I don’t know why you would need an FFL to sell uppers, if you are going to work with TN arms for the lower, that would make sense.

I will reach out to x-Caliber. Do they have a portless? I know blocks are dime a dozen, but having it as light as possible and portless is the niche I am trying to fill.

You are right, no FFL needed for uppers.

The FFL was just a side comment that we are going to get our FFL and seriously considering how to collect the niche options for the ultralight hunters. We make our gear of course, but I think we could build a nice niche as a company that caters to finding the most ultralightest.

We are on the same track that you pointed to... with the FFL we could stock TN lowers, BCA uppers, and maybe even build ULUL ready to go.

This is all in the idea stage right now. Getting a barrel into the shop and gauging demand is the first step.

X-caliber has blanks, but they are already contoured and have a gas journal, you can omit the gas port which is what I did. I did not order mine threaded, and had it done later with a smith, my mistake. The only issue I had was the barrel extension was not stainless and had some rust spots after hunting in the rain then not inspecting the rifle for a few weeks.

Thanks for the info. Gives me something to go on.

I have a contact at Preferred Barrels, so I reached out to them too. If anyone else has any other suggestions, lemme know.

I am moving this forward. I may create a link to a form to gather more easily digestible information to crunch all the numbers. That all depends on the responses from the companies.

STATUS UPDATE: good news and other news

Good news:

I can get the Shaw barrels and tweak the specs lighter. They will be sand blasted stainless, threaded and marked with LS.

Based on the current votes, I can do both the 16” .223 barrels and 6x 45. And I will have some to stock. About 8 weeks till from the time I order till they are in your hands.

It won’t be more than $180-190 per barrel plus shipping for a pre-order group buy. In the store they will be $210-220 or thereabouts.

Other news:

I am working on other OEM channels. Hopefully I can find lower MOQ to get in other chambers and barrel lengths.

From Shaw, the MOQ is high enough that I would need more commitments to do other calibers like 22 and 6 ARC and shorter barrels. ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE is to charge full price of $210-220 for a reduced total group order number. Tell me how you all feel. The price isn’t terrible…

I would also add 22 ARC and 6 ARC for the BCA bolt actions.

I am happy to do 12” in any caliber with numbers.

Thanks for the update, and nice work! And, for the others; the 25 16" 6x45's in the poll aren't enough as they are exceeding the number of 223's in the poll? Or, looks like the MOQ for shaw 6x45 is greater than 25?

Just confirming $210 for a stainless lightweight, un-ported 6x45? I’m good with that. Nearly $100 savings over x-caliber.

I will update my post, I think I can run the 6x45 too, I didn’t take into account the multiple barrel orders. My bad.

Yes, stainless, no port, threaded, and pencil barrel.

See update based on what @Trackselk corrected my numbers… I forgot the multiple barrel votes.

I am thinking $190 on the 6x45 preorder and $220 for the store.

I am at SHOT Show and talked with an OEM manufacturer that I can do a group buy through.

They will be appropriate fast twist, threaded, portless, pencil barrels. Basically, the ULUL special.

25 is the minimum order quantity.

I think I can do it for less than $95 shipped for the .223 wylde.

The 6x45 will be more if they don’t have the reamer.

Post up the specs you want and any questions.

Congrats on your success and thanks for working this up for us! I'd likely still be in for a barrel preorder, but I thought we were looking at around $100? I'm sure I missed something, so I apologize in advance.

MOQ is significantly higher than 25 from Shaw…

You didn’t miss anything. I have many irons in the fire on this one. Your question brings up the rest of the story… I want to be transparent as possible.

Yes, this is the Shaw barrel that they offered and you all bought out, but hopefully with a lighter profile.

The barrel and price point of $100 I gave wasn’t stainless. Most in the thread asked for stainless, and Shaw is a known quantity. I want to proceed with stainless and it makes sense to carry the Shaw as OEM. Shaw is the second company I have heard from and they are the most reasonably priced. Another said no.

I am still working on other OEM at the lower price point. One company in particular might get me to the $100 price point, but not in stainless. I haven’t been able to connect with them. I have called several times last week and emailed.

If I hear from them I will work out a deal if possible and their MOQ may make it possible for smaller order quantities of other barrels. I just don’t know how much they said will actually happen.
