Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

Thanks! Ordered one to keep stashed away for a future build. It’s a great weight saver.

I think this one has reached its practical limit for an efficient hunting rifle.

It’s a pretty good deal glad you got one, wish they had them in black.

That’s a sweet little gun!

I’m working on a 13” 5.56 gasser right now that should finish out around 3.9lbs with suppressor, PA 1x prism, and an empty lancer mag.

I though about the fluted chamber for a while now. I used to pick up LC cases from our department range. The highway patrol was using some HKs and the cases had the longitudinal stripes on them. The legend is that they are not reloadable so of course I reloaded them and they worked fine. I had an HK 91 style rifle at one time and never stopped reloading those 308s. BeardedGnome.

Well, I guess they got it back and will be working on it soon.

I wanted to give an update on this. I received the action back from BCA. While it was a bit better, the bolt would bind everytime I tried to cycle it. It seemed that by grabbing the bolt handle it induced enough leverage on the bolt to bind it up. If you held the bolt handle right next to the bolt, it would cycle since there was significantly less leverage on the bolt.

I sent BCA a video of it and they immediately sent a return label and refunded my money. We always want everything to work correctly when we buy it, but sometimes things just dont work right. I really appreciate a business that takes care of a customer quickly when those situations arise. Good job BCA even if your product did not work for me.

Could a fluted chamber be the answer to ARC chambers in our straight pull rifles?

Another idea: with my Ai (ackley improved) project, I realized that I might be able to make the Shellshock (nickle steel) cases work, and they're much slicker. So, if a fluted chamber helps but wrecks the brass, maybe a slightly longer chamber with bullets jammed 20 thou will work as well, only with much higher pressure (velocity) ceiling, (and non reloadable 'brass' also). I'll report back with my findings. Hoping to add 2-400 fps to the ULUL. 200 to heavies, 400 to the 57gr hammers is the goal.

Oops: this doesn't really help the 6arc issue🫠

It DOES NOT wreck the brass if done as in the HK fluted chamber. I have re-used brass from an HK in 5.56 and in 7.62. It does look different. If you are worried after you get a chamber that is fluted please send me the brass. I will pay freight. I can use cases. Be Well Brothers, THE Bearded Gnome.

So, I've got a charging handle I want to run by you all. Please give me your thoughts.

Plan A. Make a small titanium handle that is a 90 degree piece like in the video linked recently, but don't cut the notch. If I make it left charging, it won't dig into my back when slung over, and I'm thinking that I can easily jog my head out of the way to avoid a black eye when reloading (?).
Plan B. Shorten the inboard portion, and cut the notch (slightly lighter fwiw) and do it like the video did, except for the left hand pull. Do you think that the left pull will be terrible for a righty? At least with Plan A I can reverse it in 60 seconds to the other side, but then it might want to chew (more) into my back or rain/snow jacket. I don't think with my neck and shoulder injuries that I'll have much luck slinging the rifle on the opposite side, or it would be slower to deploy for sure..

On a side note: with my current mods bringing the entire package down to the 3.5lb range, I'm not worried about this mod adding back 2 oz. I'm also going to start running a dust cover and slick side upper, for much cleaner/dryer internals.

Please flame away😛

You must be a tough SOB. Adding 2 ounces to a 56-ounce rifle might cause additional shoulder injuries.

I’m just playing. Do it and see if it works better for you. You could even try a vertical charging handle so it won’t dig into your back at all.

I like it. I'll even offer to test another one for ya.

I'd kinda like one that uses the buffer spring to load the next round and hold the bolt closed. Might have to 3D print a buffer "weight" and try it.

Thanks, Watching videos of the UK dudes with their buffer setups sure makes a guy think. I might find that extra inertia essential with the 223ai crush fit situation
