Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

What velocity do you get with the factory 108eld? And if memory serves, you are using the BCA side charger not the bolt action upper... how is the extraction with the 6ARC?

Various lots of Factory 108 were between 2480 and 2440. Correct BCA side charge upper not their newer bolt version.
Extraction is fairly easy until the brass starts to show pressure signs.

I’m not trolling, just an observation from a set up I had.

When I finished shooting I got home and put the rifle on a block and could flex the barrel more than it should move. I double checked it against my other rifles and they didnt do that.

You’re saying you could bend a Faxon pencil barrel? Or are you saying that you could flex the barrel at the upper receiver/barrel extension and nut joint?

I could flex the barrel at the muzzle further up and done, left to right, more than I could on any of my other rifles.

Sorry I’m not trying to be annoying.

Are you saying the barrel would bend/flex in the middle of its length, or are you saying the upper/barrel joint allowed the end of the barrel to move.

Two very different problems.

Sorry to hear your experience with a pencil barrel wasn't ideal. It's good to hear feedback that doesn't align with our own experience, as it helps us learn. I for one have not experienced what you have, as my several ULUL builds (including with a faxon pencil barrel and a shaw barrel which is even lighter) have been around MOA. Probably 1.25moa would be conservative, but I have days when I can keep it under moa, so I'm sure I'm the weak link not the rifle. If you decide to take another plunge into the ULUL world, I'd be happy to share my build list.

Well... I dont know. The bolt would stick halfway open most every time I would try to open it (this was just cycling it unloaded at home). So I reached out to BCA and they had me send it back for them to fix.

I did not expect it to cycle like a Tikka... But I did expect to be able to cycle it.

I will let you know when it comes back. I am still waiting on BCA to get their lightweight barrel back in stock.

Well, I guess they got it back and will be working on it soon.

My cheap (but incredibly light) Monstrum (sp?) Mount snapped while sitting in the safe, zero rounds fired, and torued with torque wrench. Sure glad I wasn't packed in the backcountry 8 miles where i hunt when it died...

Same thing happened to me last summer. Here was my post about it.

Welp, thanks for that expensive bout of paranoia.

I'm off to look for a new scope mount.

Lucky my local gunshop had the cheap 'one screw per side' leupold rifleman rings on the shelf as I was rushing to get a load developed for elk pack in. It's only slightly heavier and seems to be just fine. For the $20, I might just have the packgoats carry a spare. Gotta love 300 pounds of capacity!

Not sure if I'm allowed to link it here.

Its not ULUL in his build, but the way he cut the bolt and added a handle looks more in line with a traditional bolt gun. I might give it a whirl if I can find a cheap upper locally.

Now that's cool. Like a sturdier/cheaper Solo (I have bent my charging handle screw from too much force seating a round). Gonna have to try it...

Nice find, thanks!
Anyone interested in building a tough (forged?) Aluminum handle for this? I'd be all over it for $50!

And a cleanly-cut upper would also be nice. Could probably cut both sides and make the bolt handle reversible too.
Good idea, maybe Solo wants to jump on this and we could send in an original one for the mod. I'd want to keep it either left or right pull for extra rigidity though. I guess it would be nice to seal off the left side for debris and precip, and rigidity 🤔

Edit: I've gotta add that I REALLY like this set up, because not having a big slot closer to the chamber will help with rigidity (not that it has been a problem) but mainly not having crap enter the action from that side will be really nice!
