Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

For reasonable cost, simplicity, and function, I'd start with the first build in this thread with a couple of changes:

1. Shaw's unported 223 Wylde barrel (wasn't available back then - thanks to @StupidLightweight and the people in this thread for making that happen).
2. Either a Kaw Valley PCC handguard of you choice (relatively inexpensive and very functional) or if you want something a little lighter still, one of the homemade versions people are doing here. (My 9" handguard is only 1.9 oz and probably 1/3 the cost of the Kaw Valley and just as rigid)
I would add that @hereinaz is about to have us a lighter barrel than the Shaw, and more people's buy in will help make it a reality. But you'll have to be willing to wait approximately 2 months.

This looks awesome.. To save me from reading through 157 pages, can someone summarize the go to Rokslide build here? What is Rokslide's go to upper? barrel? forend? stock? Keeping value/price in mind
Many of the uppers are being build on the “solo 300” though many others are using other uppers and adapting as able and needed.

The @Thegman answered the barrel and forend question.

The cheapest (I think) folding adapter is the one from “military overstock”, but there are quite a few out there. There are some lighter ones but they are expensive. This is a luxury and not part of the original ULULs but many have added these in.

The stock is a variable. The cheapest is just using some carbon fiber tubing and developing your own including a buttstock. There are so many options in this category I’m not sure where to begin. I went with the CP prebuilt one but there are definitely cheaper and as equally light (if not lighter) options.

The hogue 15 degree grip is probably the best all around value grip you can get. Light and affordable. Not much else that I know of that competes.

My first pistol build is 4 lb on the nose with Ultra 7 and Holosun sight. No modifications yet, except an A2 buffer tube I already had cut in half.

Its a relatively heavy 5.56 12" barrel with Bear Creek Upper and TA lower. I will add other details when its done.

Looking forward to shooting it.

Packgoat, thanks for a new purchase, how much does the 90 elbow from rock weigh?
The listed weight on their website is pretty accurate. I weighed mine at 32 grams.

Just know it's not a tight fit in the proper sized tube, so you have to build it up with some epoxy or a spacer of some kind.

It appears the shaw portless will be just as accurate as the faxon.

First round impact on my little 4 inch gong at 305, and 5 round group at 305 is about 1.17moa. Should have dialed a bit more for the wind.

I’m ignorant to what Stand 1 ammo is. What’s that?

Seems to be the highest velocity commercial 77 TMK load.

I have a 6 ARC side pull. Just cut the BCA bolt down tonight and dropped 4 oz like another member a few pages back.

I think the ARC is having trouble in Solo 300 uppers because they are a lot tighter and rougher to cycle. I can push the bear creek side charge bolt with my pinky to full lock up. Extraction is no issue but I did pull the gas rings and extractor spring rubber piece.

I also was able to run 22 ARC as a side pull. Going to sell that barrel and balance of 100 rounds I bought because I thought I could gain 150 yards terminal range over the 6 ARC but turns out not enough velocity so nearly identical range.

My solo 300 with Shaw portless is much tougher to cycle than either ARC. Extraction I don’t notice a difference other than the rougher cycling on 223.

What kind of barrel length and speeds were you getting with the 22 arc and 6 arc? I’ve been kicking around a bolt action AR upper as our laws here in PA are kind of weird when it comes to hunting. For example I have a .300 blackout pistol, not legal for hunting as it is semi auto. I put a 16” upper on it and it becomes legal for small game but not big game. If I put a manually operated upper on it it becomes legal for big or small game regardless of barrel length.

The rifle would primarily be for small game out to 500 yards but could also be used on deer during our late firearms season. As such I’ve narrowed it down to two options a compact and lightweight manually operated AR in one of those cartridges or a 14.5” pin and welded barrel for one of my custom bolt guns in 22 Creed or 6 Creed.

Looks like a BCA bolt action upper would be the ticket for you.
