I've attached my dope chart for the BDC SWFA ultralight. It looks complicated... but with some practice, it's pretty close to dialing turrets in its precision and speed. Plus it's 100% repeatable because the only "dialing" that happens on the scope is the adjustment of the zoom, so you can't have a turret slip accidentally, or forget which revolution returns to zero, etc. Just get the range to target, look at the chart and find the corresponding zoom and line on the reticle to use, adjust the zoom, then aim with the correct part of the reticle... and shoot.

As for diy projects needing a mill, I was able to use a drill press for milling out the side charger slot. I made a wooden bracket to hold the upper in place, and used clamps to hold a guide to the table of the drill press, then I could run my upper in straight lines with a side cutting bit.

The most time consuming project was the carbon tube that had to be sanded on the inside to fit over the barrel nut. And making my fitting for the carbon tube stock to line up properly in the cutoff buffertube. But neither of those needed special tools, just a grinding wheel and sand paper.
Do you know the subtensions (mil or MOA) for that reticle?
Or what app are you using for that reticle drop info?

I can't remember which site I saw it on and maybe it's been covered here...

What about those super lightweight telescoping stocks that look like it might be like a brace? It looked like two carbon arrow shafts mounted into the butt with a bracket on the upper that allows the thing to telescope in/out

Not sure how light you want to go, but packgoatguys and my setup both have removable stocks that save a lot of money and weight. His pops off, mine threads out. Much more compact for the backpack as well

This is what I'd found

The steadybrace with polymer brace. I'm not sure if it includes the whole setup, but I think it'd be 3.6oz. and a whopping $175. That's not cheap. You guys' setup is probably the much better route to go.

I have experience with 3/8” Pultruded carbon rods in another application. They’re strong enough to hold me standing in one of them 30’ in the air climbing a tree.

I only have them in 6” lengths. But they can be ordered any length.

Have given thought to building a collapsible stock with them.

I just keep going back to whoever said it here - just unscrew the A2 buffer and stick it in pack or pocket. Screw in when you’re ready to hunt. Seems simple.

A quick-detatch stock makes for a pretty compact package. With the foam cheek riser it's about 3.1oz, without the foam it was about 2.5oz including the threaded buffertube part.

Has it been covered on here how you did that because I really want to copy that! Wonderful idea

Hmm, I think I did... You're welcome to pm me if you want more details, but it was pretty much just a cut-off rifle length buffertube, a carbon tube, a carbon 90, and some 3d printed wedges to make a flat surface for the foam. I'd be happy to make one for anyone who wants, if they'd cover materials, shipping, and a bit for my time.

Thanks a bunch! I guess I probably could have looked that up.
I don’t have strelok, looks like there might be a few hoops to jump through to get it on my iPhone. Gonna give it a try though.
Ya, there is something wonky with strelok, I couldn't download it on my son's phone for some reason. I've had the app for years so maybe I have an old version or something.

From what I understand, it's some crap about the war in Ukraine and potentially Strelok being used by Russians(??). The State Department I believe has banned its downloads and updates. That's why you haven't seen an update for a couple of years and can't buy in an app store. I'm hoping that gets undone in the future; it's a really useful program. Mine still has the reticles I use, and most of the bullets, but no new Primary Arms reticles, new bullets, etc.

Has anyone ordered a barrel from tactical ordnance in Oregon? Their one of 2 that I see chambering lightweight barrels in a caliber I'm considering(6x6.8).

I haven't.... but I'm intrigued. 6.8 SPC brass from Starline is substantially cheaper than 6mm ARC brass, and maybe (someone set me straight) the 6.8 SPC case would work well with the Solo 300 upper.

Sounds like their barrels are made to order, so could probably get a skinny barrel without a gas port drilled.

Does anyone know if the solo300 upper has a "lifespan" to it? I don't know anything about ARs but I thought I'd read that the upper usually has a round count lifespan due to the materials used.

Could the life of a solo300 be shorter with a higher pressure round like 5.56/223 since it was designed for 300blk?

I think you'll wear out your knees long before the upper

I'm pretty sure @StupidLightweight had good success with straight pull SPC based cases. My reason for wanting it is any x39/PPC based cases in an AR end up with a paper thin extractor and those are prone to breaking especiallywhen someone starts chasing speed. It's why Hornady specified 52ksi for semi auto loadings for 6arc. You can safely take a spc case up to 58ksi, and 6x6.8 has an almost identical capacity as a 6arc, all else being equal, you should be able to take a 6x6.8 up to a higher pressure(speed) without breaking or blowing something up. X-caliber also chambers this cartridge in their pencil barrel.
