Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

There’s a company called phantom defense that might be doing some 223 like this. Haven’t used them so no personal experience. But had a friend tell me they might start selling loaded 69 gr tmks that I’m going to buy and try.

Can those cases be reloaded? by normal people? Or do they require any special equipment?

the price isn’t unattractive and it’s a great range/practice bullet to start out with anyway.

not sure on that. Probably not worth ruining some dies to find out. It would be interesting to see some real chronograph data on them. I might grab some 77s too.

To answer my own question....
30 HRT is based on the 6.8 SPC case, so probably not a good straight pull candidate.
Yes, the potential increase in pressure over the Grendel case (57k vs 52k) and increase in bolt strength had my hopes up for the 6.8 SPC case in the Solo. The 30HRT was my second Solo build, but it just didn't extract easily enough to be practical and the Wilson Ultralight 300 HAM’R barrel replaced it without a hitch.

At this point, all my experiences with the Solo and those of others, like @robtattoo , indicate it's a 223/350 Legend based system.

Right now, I think the best bet for 6.8 SPC/6.5 Grendel based stuff is going to be BCA's new upper. I will likely resurrect my 30HRT barrel on one and see how it goes. It's not going to be Solo 300 weight, but with all the new ideas developed here over the last year, under 3.5 lbs should be a piece of cake.

Do you know if these are a "plug and play" solution? As in, we can run these in any common 556 chamber or are there safety concerns?

They must be if they're selling them to the general public. I'd buy some for the "brass" if I knew they could handle more psi. I'm going to call them actually

Can someone that's versed with a psi calculator please run the pressure on these? It's too early in the day for this monkey to learn new things...
Waiting on a call back from phantom. I want to hotrod my 223!

Low profile bolt handle with 1/2oz weight loss. This turned out surprisingly well, and is good enough if you have average or better hand strength.

3/4" threaded circuit board standoff + 3/16" (10-32 thread) stainless rod. 2 standoffs plus 12" of rod was $20-25 shipped. There's an alternative titanium knob for $35 + shipping, for a 3 gram penalty.

For those trying to shave every last bit of weight, and wanting to really reduce how far the bolt handle sticks out. 1/2 ounce of weight savings.

Can you post a picture of your bolt handle idea? Sounds interesting.

Never mind! You already did...thanks!

For comparison sake, my ti knob from knottingham tactical is 6.3grams so this is awesome!

Does anyone think 223AI would extract any differently with the flatter angle on shoulder?
No clue on the AI treatment making a difference, but I'd bet a case of ammo that the tapered Rusky rounds — 7.62x39 or 5.45x39 — would extract easier than the Grendel-class cartridges. That's not a bad option for someone to try out. Nothing about that case shape was accidental. Flawless operation in heinous conditions was all that mattered to the Soviets.

I have exactly zero experience with it, so take this for what it worth, but my -guess- is "no, it would work as well as a non-AI 223". I'd like to try a 223AI, but haven't been able to convince myself that it would be worth the hassle (yet).

Any opinions of the 227 wolverine?
I bet the 25x 45 sharps or wolverine would both work too. Mag length would be the limiting factor, just like 223 and 6x45. Depends on bullet choice and velocity goals as much as anything.

I need you guys to tell me these ULUL rifles are not that cool and I'm better off just spending the money on shooting my 243 and getting an extra scope haha. Seriously though.

I tried the 7.62x39 & it was much more difficult to extract than .223
It's doable, but I'd hate to think I needed a quick second shot.
.300 Ham'r is hands down the best .30 cal option.
