I’ve been wondering about the farrow tech. I have the paint on mine and you can see where it has been flexing and the paint is flaking.

Side note for those interested, I got the 95gr TMK up to 2540fps from the 16” barrel in 6x45 today. That would get it to 450 yards before it drops below 1800fps.

I was probably being a little rough on it trying to eject a round that was bound up.

I think I'm going to put on an extended charging handle for awhile until it really smooths out. Do you know if any side charging AR handle will work?

I have not had the same issue, and I haven’t had to swap them out. I have taken the solo handle off a few times for cleaning and it seems you could easily drill out another handle of your choosing and use the existing bolt screw/bolt carrier.

I went with an SRS 4”. It’s 1.7oz. Didn’t realize they had better options at the time.

Can’t think of why it wouldn’t, looks to be the same depth as the 4”. I’ve had the 4” on my Jag in and out of a tricer LP head a couple dozen times now, works great.

This looks like a pretty good option too if you need a bit more rail length. 3" for 0.8oz.

I received my complete KP-15 receivers today, and am impressed with how beefy they feel while still being lightweight. Skeletonizing the rifle might be tough, the inside of the buttstock is mostly hollow, with ribbed sections on the top and bottom to add strength and probably provide extra mating surfaces for the vibration welding used to connect the left and right sides of the receiver.

The recoil pad was lightweight and mostly hollow, as was the grip. I was surprised to find it was hollow with reinforcing ribs when I ran a 1/2" bit inside to see if I could get rid of some plastic.

I swapped the buffer for Taccom ULW delrin buffer (1.1oz), swapped the mag release, hammer, and trigger out for New Frontier Armory polymer parts.

Weights:

• As received, full assembly: 27.7oz
• Buffer: 2.8oz
• Recoil pad w/screws: 1.3oz
• Modified, full assembly: 23.9 oz

I installed a 16" Faxon 6mm ARC barrel, with their 10" carbon fiber handguard, on an Aeroprecision upper, with a lightweight Brownells bolt that I picked up on sale earlier this year (Memorial Day sale?). Total weight with a magazine came to 4lb 14.5oz. Lightweight, but not ultralight at all. An Aeroprecision scope mount will add 3.4 oz more, and if I add a 6x SWFA (likely), it will end up a chunky ~6lb 6.5oz.... plus a suppressor....

Finally finished the whole thread- could have overlooked but is this the only gas gun on here?

Building my first gas ar in 223/5.56 and although im not chasing ULUL i do want to optimize for suppressed and lightweight.

Not sure, but as you probably know, the gas variant wrecks your hearing even with a suppressor. I wouldn't bother to make a muzzle heavy, extra long, expensive suppressed AR since it's still loud.

On the other hand. I do a 2-3 week pack trip in the wilderness every spring where I lightly hunt blackbears. But, since I will 99% get the drop on them in the open country, I'm thinking hear pro would be more sensible than hauling my suppressor many miles, especially if I have a good fall in the rough terrain. Might make sense to give that rifle some gas...

Yes, but its still better than my 30-06 with a brake lol.

I have a 10 year old cheap milspec heavy ar now with a 1:9 twist barrel that needs updating and my hope was to build a new lighter upper for it and jump on the 223 77tmk bandwagon. I minimum need a new barrel to stabilize heavier bullets- right?

Then based on experience, evaluate either not changing anything, or build a straight pull ULUL AR or hit the easy button and get a traditional bolt action.

If I'm going to suppress later i might as well do it now while I'm at it and see how it goes.

am i on the right track or chasing rabbits down empty holes? Seemed like a logical babystep progression
