Ultralight Tripod Options

It has very low resolution between lockup and flop over. You move the lever the tiniest bit and it changes drastically, makes it hard to glass smoothly. Also sometimes you think it has enough tension to hold it's self up after gridding for a bit, but then your spotter just flops over.

Ill sell you mine :)
If only using binos to glass, would the BCL ballhead be a good solution? I don't have a spotter at this time.

The Back Country Lite and LP combo is nice. Super light and super easy to pack.
I have the same setup and really like it, when going as light as possible. Doing it over, I’d get the Wiser over the Tricer. Tricer’s pricing has gotten silly for being made of Chinesium IMO.

Do you miss anything using the BCL compared to the Front country ballhead outside of the weight difference?

how does the sirui 124 compare to the slik?

I preferred the Slik 632 and/or 633 over the Sirui 124. On the Sirui ST-124 I had, I could not get a good firm lock up on the triangular center column. Even when clamped down there was a lot of play in the center column and I could push it down by hand. The leg stiffness and leg locks on the Slik were better too IMO. Maybe the Sirui I got was a lemon.

The Slik 632 is short, even for sitting at times. I have recently ordered a MTN HNTR SS which has a similar feature set but offer more height to compare. I LOVE having just a two piece leg section to adjust.

I use a promaster xc325c and tricer lp head. Just a hair over 2 lbs total.I like glassing from a stool and on steep slopes it’s still plenty tall. Even tall enough to stand if needed(rare). If you’re sitting on the ground only, the aziak backcountry is the best going as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve used a good number of tripods. Best bang for the buck is the Sirui 124. Still reasonably light and MUCH more stable in winds then the ultralight options.the things I always look for are …
-reasonable stability in winds. Most “ultralight “ tripods quickly become useless in a breeze. Worth .5-1 lb extra all day.
-center column .makes setup adjustments SO much quicker and easier. And unless you have it extended pretty high, does not effect stability much like a lot of people say.
-twist locks. Just a preference but I strongly prefer them.
The little tricer head has been great. No it’s not as smooth as a good fluid head, but it saves me close to a lb and works pretty damn well.
On a budget or not , sirui legs/tricer head (little heavier but taller and damn stable) or replace legs with aziak backcountry(sitting only, not as stable) would be great options
Thanks for this summary. For the Sirui 124, is that the ST or AM version?

I would go with a different ball head or pan head even for just binos.
The tricer seems to be everyone's go to for a head based on this thread based on weight req's.

I was used to having a ballhead initially, just because it's easier to level out rather than shifting the entire tripod (in my limited experience) hence the initial look at the bcl.

I recently got back from my Nov hunting trip using the Wiser P170 Nighthawk, really love it other than it's limited range to angle down because the handle hits tripod center post. Need to come up with a solution to that or find another, might look at the tricer LP panhead. In all honesty, a regular ballhead on it would be fine. The old CX-10X ballhead off my lightweight Sirui set up would be great for example.

C-10X or K-10X - search results keep pulling this one up: https://store.sirui.com/products/ba...JLwKmvXo6RPyBuF0fqqjy1h77D9hq_5DvIerpZDfjr0Qt
