2019 nissan titan xd has worked well for me. Large enough to fit 4 grown men and gear and Dogs. small enough to fit down most trails and 2 tracks. camper shell has a leer rack in the top to hold most gear you need. bed is carpeted and insulated. if your going solo camping in the truck bed is nice dont even need a pad if you want it (or forgot it)

The more we take my wifes 4runner out in the field, the more I love it. Its like the ultimate Side by Side. Her's is a 2020 with 80k miles and 12 months left on the loan note. When she decides she wants a new rig, I am keeping this and putting some suspension/tire mods on it and will drive this thing till it dies! Trying to join the 300k mile club.

So far, I have been able to take it anywhere I would have taken my side by side.

My wifes ride is a 21 TRD ORP 4R and I've been debating on getting one for myself to mod or a jeep or something. This is her 2nd, she rolled her first. They are great vehicles.

Hers has the different off-road selector as well and when you lock out the rear in 4 low, it will crawl anywhere. Why I like this over say a jeep or a bronco, is just the known and proven reliability of the 4.0/5 speed combo. Lowtech by today's standards, but just about bullet proof. If I get it eventually, I will also add a HD roof rack for more carrying options

Budget aside, if you could have a dedicated hunting truck in addition to your daily driver, what would it be ?
I would build a samurai, that would be the most useful to me. There are lots of kits to put fuel injected motors (I would probably go with a 22re) and you can easily put power steering on them. Keep it modest, 31x10.50 tires, not jacked up high

I would love to have one, it’s just hard to justify because I like just having one versatile rig that works well for everything I do, and a samurai project is going to be around 15k$

I've got a 2" lift that is going on soon (2nd Gen as well), any problems fitting 285's?—I was going to go 275/70/17, the 285's are a little over a 1/2" higher—worry about stuff rubbing

Not all lifts are created equal, make sure to get very good quality shocks. I blew up 3 sets on my 2016 before I found a set that I liked.

ya i just ordered a costal offroad bumper for it. Im going to weld it up and color match it to the truck.

The XD has an electric (magnet operated) rear locker. only thing that sucks is you have to be in 4low to turn it on. I have looked it up to find a work around for that.

I hunt solo 99% of the time, and I travel pretty long distances to areas to hunt. For me, and the way I hunt, my 4Runner is about perfect. It’s reliable, very competent off road, I can sleep in the back at a trail head or on shorter weekend or 3 day hunts.
I think the only thing that ever tempts me as being better would be a Tundra with a GoFast Camper, but I’m going to keep my 4Runner until it dies, which might be a decade or so away LOL

I have a 2013 with a 2.5 inch lift. It has 285/70/17 tires on it, and the front tires do rub on the back of the fender well when turned about halfway if the suspension is articulated much at all. But the tires are mounted on -10mm offset wheels, so I think the offset creates more of a rub there with the tires pushed out further than factory. The other spot you might rub is the front cab mount, so lots of guys putting 33" tires on tacomas do the CMC (cab mount chop) mod that requires welding to relocate the cab mount on the frame.

Mine doesn't rub very badly or very often, so I haven't taken a sawzall to the fender well yet, but the previous owner had already done the CMC, so I don't have any feedback if I would've rubbed without that done.
