@Lowg08 did you get time in late '21 to try out the m7 in snow/rain/etc? Strongly considering this as my late season pant that'll handle wind/rain. TIA
I actually got them and sent them back. They were excellently built but have nearly the same face fabric as the M5. Just too loud for the amount of bow hunting I do I went with the new catalyst foundry pants and absolutely love them. Best late season pant I’ve ever owned

Sweet, thanks for the feedback. I looked at the foundry's...pretty awesome they're full length leg zips and knee pads. Used to not value knee pads til I got the sitka mountain's, now for backcountry hunts I can't imagine not having them.
Would you say the "warmth" features of the foundry are comparable/better/worse than the m7? What's your thought?

Oh now if your not worried about noise. The m7 is great. I had one of the best seasons as far as staying warm. The foundry was awesome. I was thoroughly impressed. The coldest day I hunt was I think 12* had 145&250 base foundry pants and puffy pants. 15 mph winds and never even felt a chill or wind or even the need to move. I definitely think they could be just as warm as m7. The chap material from the knee down is awesome

Yeah I would only be using these (other than around town 😆) for rifle back country hunts. I’m not too hung up on noise. Thanks for the comparison and info on the m7!!

No problem. Honestly if i was just doing backcountry rifle. I’d have kept the M7. I am rather partial to the catalyst though. I use zip off so the catalyst pants make that easier. The pockets and zippers are nice. I don’t think you would be disappointed either way

For me I am down to eddie bauer guide pro work pants for most of what I do. If it's really cold I use their guide pros with the fleece lining. When timed right, you can get both for ~$120 total.

I love the attacks but find them too warm for my liking for hiking around in anything say 45°+ and I don’t wear base layers. I can’t wear attacks in hot weather, way too warm. The Tiburons are awesome for warmer weather.

My system is tiburon for mild-hot weather, attack for cold. And a full length zipper insulated pant(haven’t found my favorite yet but leaning towards trying FL U)

So that is a 3 pant system but I can pretty much hunt any weather (I have hunted from 114° Down to single digits, never any below zero) but I can use base layers if it is really, really bad out.

I have really grown to love hip zips as they add tons of versatility while active. With that in mind you could use a heavier pant for early season and leave the vent open early but still have the perfect mid season pant. Get a lined pair for late season and the vents give you the opportunity to use them mid-season also.

I'm using SKRE Gear unita pants archery season amazing breathability and the lined Kodiak pants that block the wind extremely well for late season.

I run super hot, especially when moving.

Kuiu Tiburon early
Kuiu Attcks / FL Corrugate Guide late

+/- Peloton 118 base layers as needed in AM.

Late season extensive glassing I add a puffy pant like the Kifaru LPP or Kuiu Kenai.

My biggest issue with the kuiu pants is the hip vent has a liner. I myself can tell a difference between when I vent with a liner verses without. I only have open vents. No liner restriction

FWIW - I've had the Timberline's for about 2 years now and I've found the knees and the seat are not really waterproof. The reinforcement in those areas is great for sitting/glassing/rugged so you don't have to worry about tearing them (at least I haven't run into a situation where I tore them up, and I've been through some nasty stuff in them). It could be just my experience, but the day I got them I threw them on and was playing football with 2 of my boys in the front yard...it was misting/light rain. Granted I was crawling around on my knees for a while while I let them tackle me...but my butt and knees were definitely feeling the moisture through the pant. I imagine in a light rain they'd do fine, but it seems to me they'd soak out pretty quick. Again, others may have a more informed opinion on that aspect.

I have owned every think from Sitka timberline to attack pants to skre hard scrabble to Walmart wrangler and I’ve for myself decided the catalyst and corrugate foundry are best for me

Same experience here, they definitely aren’t waterproof. They also do not dry very fast.

I like kutanas for early season. Plenty durable, dries quick, not too hot.

I use the DH lites early, regular DeHavilland late, so two pant system like OP is asking about. I’ve got attacks and they are really nice, but under a backpack belt they ride down more. They can get hot like others have mentioned.

I’ve been eyeing those M7’s for dedicated late season though.

@MT_Wyatt just a heads up on those m7’s because I was giving them a hard look too. They don’t zip all the way off, zipper stops a few inches above the cuff, different than the m5’s which size fully off. Thought I’d throw that in there.

For late season when you got the DH’s on, I assume you’re running a base of some kind? How do you layer w them late season

My choice:
Attacks and talus for late season, I look very hard with kutana gale force pants too. I have a kutana gale for jacket, it is amazing, I am thinking about getting a gale for pants too this summer.

I run a pair of their Helio fleece baselayer bottoms under them, so I have the side vents that line up. I also add the Crye Precision lightweight knee pads along with gaiters.

I think the Kutana and the Corrugate Foundry is a good system. The Corrugate cuts wind and has waterproofing on the knees, butt, lower leg, and you can layer easily beneath them. I find the colder-weather version of the pants is just adding micro fleece that you can get at with a baselayer.

I am a big fan of prana zions...get a regular pair and a winter version that are fleece-lined...they are the most comfortable pants I own and because they are solid colors you can wear them around town too.

I have about 6 pairs and wear a pair nearly every day.
I LOVE the zion pants, but didn't realize they had a winter version with Fleece! Got to check those out!
