Trout help

I haven’t read all of the posts, so this may have already been covered, but I think a big advantage that fly fishing has over spin fishing is that for me, I’m more likely to try and get my fly into tighter areas where bigger fish tend to hold, and I don’t get overly concerned about loosing my fly since I tie all my own stuff and it’s cheap. I would never take a lot of those riskier casts if I were using spinning lures that cost me several dollars apiece.

Fly fishing is a fineese game, lures you can change cover water more quote, both different animals. Fly fished exclusively for 5-6 years from trout to bass, i never caught more that 6 trout on a trip I always did good warmwater but there easier to catch.

Probably 4 years ago o ran across a post on a Pa special hunting forum from a person name Frank Nail(i think thats his last name). He fishes pa streams large and small and crushes it for trout on spinners . I started fishing this way and couldn’t be happier, i think im too high strung for fly fishing im just not patient to match the hatch, I know one day ill go back to it some, remember fish what makes you happy, i used to spend LOTS of time of fly fishing forums and there was always people knocking spin fishing. Theres too few of us to nock the other side as long as there ethical/law abiding.

This last sentence made me laugh. I fish quite a bit, and the thought has never crossed my mind, “there’s too few fishermen here”.

Fishing is no different than hunting, after the first days of trout/mentor season in pa, ill be lucky to see a another kid fishing, i see this with my nephew as well who is 16, no inner drive to take initive to fish explore by himself.

I have caught my biggest rainbow and brown on a troutbeads bead egg. Not the most traditional form but I do fish all styles. I’m kind of a wet fly junkie but putting an indicator on and a small peach bead egg will bring the big boys/girls out.

I think unless you are fishing streamers exclusively, you'll catch more, bigger fish on spinning equipment. Not that flies don't catch big fish, but per time spent on the water jerk baits and soft plastics are going to catch more big fish. I feel like fly fishing is like trad archery. More about the different experience than a performance advantage.

Something to also consider is the fact that you can fish restricted waters with a fly rod that will hold bigger fish naturally. Blue ribbon or sometimes called Gold Ribbon sections of streams are for flies only and have a restricted keep size of typically 18".

Same same. Each has their place. Fly fishing opens up TONS of small water if you live near any, is fun. Big water? Take your pick. I feel fortunate to just go fishing, regardless of what tackle, and love them both.
