Will be in MT in June for work and family is coming up for a few days of road tripping around the state after work. I’ve got an extra day before we fly back (out of Bozeman) and wanted to see if there are any recommendations on where to take an 11 & 8 year old to catch a trout or two without hiring a guide for a float trip. We have little to no experience fly fishing so using spinning tackle would be ideal. Walk/hike in would be OK if I can get them on their first trout.

When you are there check the fly shop fishing reports for the latest river updates. Spring runoff will be an issue on some rivers so be mindful of that. The FWP stocks ponds in town that are fun for the kids or pick a trail that follows a creek and fish. Ultralight rod and some blue fox😜

If you have kids tagging along some of the ponds in town are stocked with sunfish that make for a fun day for them.

Drive on down to Beartrap, on the way to Norris/Ennis. maybe 15-20 miles
from town?
Before you cross the Madison there's a trailhead access on your left.

It's been years but the good fishing ended after the sun was up very high
and got good in the evening. Better the further you go upstream.
Lots of boulders, bring lots of lures.

If they're feeding on mayflies use black Blue Fox lures , as they'll ignore most anything
else at that time.

EGRA ponds if your looking to stay in bozo and keep it simple. +1 on the bear trap section of the Madison. It's below ennis lake and will have more fish able flows if other rivers are high. Upper Gallatin holds lots of fish too but gets really busy. Bomb over to paradise Valley and fish the Yellowstone if it's not blown out and you have the time.

Three forks ponds are always good for that. The Gallatin access by Cameron bridge, Erwin bridge and in Manhattan are easy to access as well. Hyalite res is also a good place and you can hike if fishing sucks. If you need help when you come out just hit me up and I can help you out if you want.

That title is a little fishy. Thought you were driving around in a white van looking for kids in Bozeman...
