Has anyone modified a trekking pole to accept a "bog pod" style U-shaped rifle rest?

My next rifle build is going to be UL so I'm gunna skip a mounted bipod. This would be a good alternative if pack was unavailable for some reason for use as a rest.

I know they make mono pods, but to have yet another multipurpose use for my trekking/tent poles that are already a necessity interests me.

You can pick up one of the t-nuts below at the local hardware store and mount in the top/front of you trekking pole where it won't get down into the pole straps.

I only use mine to mount a camera on the pole. The rifle rest on top of the trekking pole is just too unstable for me. You can screw the same u-shaped rests onto your tripod though, and things are much more stable.

Check out Seagent Sniper Rest. I bought one but haven't used it. It seems like a very versatile piece of gear that I'll find very useful

Mike, that's exactly the type of thing I was looking for. How firmly does it stay in the rubber? Did you drill or set with epoxy?

Good point about stability, I myself haven't shot much off a mono pod, will be worth some testing before trying, use with a camera alone would be worth doing this project though.

Jole, that thing is awesome. Great find, I could definitely see myself using that too. One that would semi-permanently attach would be the ticket.

Test that sucker out and give us a write up!

It does work great for a camera (TG-3). I just leave a small 1/4" piece of threaded bolt in the camera mount.

I have my t-bolt in a cork handle (I feel like cork handles are much cooler in the warm months and more comfortable). I just drilled the hole a little small and pressed the t-bolt in by hand along with a little wood glue. Just don't drip a bunch of glue down on the straps if you break into that compartment/hollow while drilling, as that might affect strap adjustability.

I've shot very effectively by looping the straps over the opposite pole and making a bipod out of the poles.. The rifle just rests in the cradle made by the straps..
