my dad is a cancer survivor, acute myeloid leukemia and myelofibrosis. All is well now, I was able to be the stem cell donor for the transplant.

While he was in the hospital; roughly 6 months, I became pretty regular with the other patients on the floor. One kid hit me hard, 13 roughly, second battle and that time he never left the hospital.

I’m in a position now where I wanna offer some help. Take a kid hunting or fishing. I know I can go back to the local cancer hospital and chat w them, has anyone here attempted this.

Time can be worth more than money and not only will that kid benefit but you will too!

There used to be a program where I live that took youngsters with serious health challenges out for a day fishing. I volunteered my boat and all my gear every year. The smiles when they hooked into a fish or when I'd pin the throttle down were absolutely worth it.

I had a similar idea a while back In that I would take people out and show them the ropes and let them use my gear and weapons to help get them their first elk. I felt like I would have really appreciated someone who was successful to show me the ropes when I was just starting out. I really enjoyed it but it came around to bite me in the ass when a few of them really got into it and soon enough I started seeing them taking other people into the spots that I had taken them to just a few short years before. A shame really.

For sure I get that. As it stands now I have close to 1000 acres on a big ol lake and hopefully the legal stufff in the family works out and another 1700 open up on the other side of the property line

I am not sure if a program like Team Mates would be available in your area. It is much more a time commitment but a good program where you're lined up with someone of similar interests. I believe they want the mentors to be meet with their mentee once a week or twice a month.

Pretty crappy way to thank someone for this kind of a gift.

No kidding. But it makes sense.
The value we place on our hunting isn’t about the kill, it’s about the preparation, the work put into it, the scouting, the getting to know your gear, the miles of terrain under our feet. It’s all in effort and the value is placed in the effort. When you take all of that out of it and put it on a plate for someone they lose all that value and don’t understand. Maybe in a few years , maybe in 20 when they learn what the value is will get the point
