We all need to sit down and realize that we are all experts at knowing jack sh*t!

A person who learns more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing, at which point, they begin to give “expert” opinions and tell everyone what they should or should not do.

I'd like to say that I know a little about a lot. I can also do basic math and semi advanced math. I also aim for consistency in my application of applying the "you're a stupid twatwaffle" label

I'm an expert on nothing, not even the foreign policy topics that the military official called me a SME (subject matter expert) on. Nor on the health topics that I will have a masters degree in come May (and quite a few years of experience as well). But I can have an educated conversation about many things, some as an interested individual and others as someone with a deep background in the topic.

Health care (as long as you don't get too esoteric in how you define it) is a fielded where true expertise exists. Foreign policy is a field where expertise is rare outside of limited geographic areas. Economics is a field where quite literally lay people predict things as well as the experts (and sometimes a blindfolded monkey throwing darts literally makes more accurate predictions). Human behavior on the other hand, is a topic that applies to all those areas and more, so a lifelong study of it is wise, even for those without grand ambitions.

In general, Dunning-Kruger "experts" lack nuance in how they discuss things. True experts know the limits of their knowledge because regardless of its depth, they have plumed it and found themselves wanting. The sad thing is most people will decide "real" vs "fake" expert based on who they agree with, not based on the arguments made. And, even a true expert can be wrong, so regardless, it is the substance, not who is speaking, that matters.
Ya alright sure but can you make that into a meme so I can understand it?

How will they know if they agree with someone except by the arguments they make?

It's pretty easy to disregard "experts" when they show a pattern of idiocy or incompetence in their supposed field of expertise. We've seen a lot of this in recent times. Just follow the logic.......or lack thereof. If there are gaps, contradictions, and/or it just doesn't add up, they lose any and all credibility.

Through my life, some of the best times have been when you can assemble a 'building" team. That is when the team members can identify the weakness in a plan and provide alternatives the build toward something better collectively.

I think the norm is more toward where the egos tend to breaking down the plan rather than building it up. A successful hunting team somehow can assemble a stratedgy that covers the most ground that pushes the elk to each of the members of the team. All that and the team members meeting at a predetermined location 5-6 hrs later. Often within 10-15 minutes.

When people consistantly tell you why things won't work but don't ever offer alternatives are people to avoid.

Just a concept.

Same thing happened to me but I knew it couldnt be true. I think I had like 9 billion dollars. I walked into my bosses office, told him thanks for the opportunity and its been fun but I think I will take the rest of my day and life off. He laughed.

Glad to hear you and @Customweld kept your wits. He was so shook and frantic that my coworker called him as soon as she saw him get into his company truck and instructed him to park it immediately before he does something that gets him fired.

I've got a PhD and all it stands for is Piled Higher and Deeper. More apt to thump somebody in the noggin if they call me Dr.

That's the right attitude.

Granted, I'm an ignorant redneck, however I'll call you a Dr. when you have a medical degree.

Hopefully you don't list out your credentials in a signature paragraph of emails.

I got four degrees but could never justify the money and time for a phud. The importance of an education was in helping those who didn't. Maybe that's a bad attitude.

Is that for an MD or DO or DNP or PharmD or DPT or DDS or DC?

When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself
Finally, someone who understands. I keep trying to explain to the people in white that I don't have schizophrenia, I'm just talking to the smartest person in the room. They keep holding me down and givimg me shots.

Hell no i don’t put any of that in a signature or name line anywhere. Most everyone i work with has advanced degrees so seems self flaunting and unneeded.
