Tikka T3x Stock Replacement - UPR vs B&C

[Plaz]

Am wanting to replace the stock on a T3x CTR. Trying to decide between a UPR takeoff stock or a B&C. Would the UPR stock be better than a B&C stock? Or, visa-versa?

By the way, not interested in a KRG, MDT, etc. Don’t want a chassis.

IMO, if the UPR stock is less I would opt for that.

I don’t see how a KRG bravo or echo is any less a “stock” than the UPR stock. UPR looks decent but never used one. I do really like the bravos.

I have always felt that HS precision is a better quality stock than what B&C produces. That being said I own 2 B&C stocks and they are definitely an upgrade from a stock tikka.

Have you looked at the echo? They appear extremely similar to upr stock. echo uses factory tikka mags also.

I read that the B&C stock has an integrated recoil lug in its’ aluminum bedding block. That’s concerning. I wouldn’t think an aluminum recoil lug would stand up to the recoil over time.

i think your definition of a chassis is suspect. A chassis is simply a machined metal inlet that the action sits into, example manners stocks with a mini-chassis. The b&c is a mini chassis with a sporter stock built around it, just like the manners. A bravo is more or less the exact same thing with a more adjustable/modular stock built around it, like a half-way point between a stock and a full-on chassis such as a MPA or MDT chassis like you see on a lot of PRS rifles. Aside from weight and “squareness”, much of the difference is at least in large part cosmetic. Someone will get their underwear in a bunch over that, there are legit functional differences due to the shape, but often favoring the chassis over the stock. Regardless, It doesnt sound like a chassis per se is what you dont want, what exactly is it that you dont like about a chassis? That might help focus replies on what youre looking for.

The krg echo might be one to check out—it’ll be like a sporterized version of a bravo.
Re the b&c recoil lug. How much will this gun get shot? What cartridge is it?

Gonna piggyback on this thread if OP doesn’t mind. I just got my first tikka but had already bought a Bravo from the classifieds. The factory sporter barrel looks dumb on the bravo imho. It’s like 1.5 inches or more floating above the stock.

Anyone know what chassis are out there that look good or are more designed for sporter profile?

It does. I have one and if you make sure you get it set in properly, it works well. I suspect a skim bedding job would alleviate your concern. If there is no “slop” it should stand up fine. The original T3 floating recoil lug was aluminum. It could and at times did indent from recoil, I had it happen.

Agreed, maybe they make some from different materials, but besides opening the channel up on my T3X, it's by far the best factory synthetic stock I've seen.

Most chassis’ are cut to accept any barrel dimension (meaning wide) I assume because they are traditionally used by competitors running heavy barrels. To my knowledge there isn’t a chassis that has a sporter barrel channel but I could def be wrong.

If you are really concerned about aesthetics there are several stock manufacturers that produce a sporter profile channel for a factory Tikka set up.

KRG Echo. I think they even include barrel channel inserts for different profiles.

That could be. My understanding of a chassis stock, are a larger aluminum “frame”, inside a squared-off, blocky looking benchrest kind of thing. This is a hunting rifle and I prefer a more traditional looking stock for that.

I like the looks of the B&C, but have not seen one in person. That aluminum recoil lug will probably be the deal-breaker for me. This would be on a .30-06, with a second possibly going on a .300 WM.

To me, I thought the B&C had an aluminum, full bedding block. Is that considered a chassis?
