Hey everyone, Looking to purchase my first rifle for Bear/Deer mostly and possibly Elk. Thinking 6.5 PRC caliber..

I know the reliability of Tikka so thinking of going that route.. Question is whats the real difference in the superlite/lite or roughtek lite? I love the look of the Ace Game too and how it can fold down small if put on my backpack is there any downside of going that route instead of the lite/superlite?

thanks!

I prefer the lite barrel profile to the super lite profile.

If I were you, I would look at what EuroOptic has to offer. They have some great prices at the low end.

I prefer the Lite over Superlite personally. The difference is pretty much just the fluted barrel.

The Roughtech is pretty much cosmetic differences as well, though I would consider the fluted bolt an actual negative and Cerakote a positive. But, a stainless steel Lite would still be my preference.

If you want a chassis, get a Lite and acquire a HNT26 at some point. I would not pay for the one from Tikka due to weight.

Standard roughtech/veil barrel contours are a fair bit heavier than the standard lite contour. Basic standard tradeoffs apply - they'll be heavier to carry and easier to shoot well. The ACE contours will be heavier yet compared to the roughtech and the ACE chassis is going to be heavier than the plastic Lite stock as well.

I dont see value in a superlite vs a lite version and would actually prefer the standard lite.

Stainless lite is the ticket. The tikka oversized bolt knob, fluted bolt and rail are unnecessary IME.

Save yourself some money and snag a stainless or standard and if you really want it cerakoted find someone who does it and paint it what you want. Or rattle can.

I have a few of both, I can’t tell the difference between them as far as balance.

It’s approximately a two to four ounce difference in weight (depending on other factors like bore diameter and overall length). But when it comes to muzzle end weight, I prefer the slightly heavier muzzle end. I have an easier time holding steady with a muzzle heavy rifle. There’s obviously a practical limit for how heavy things can be before fatigue sets in, but this is rarely approached with a sporter barrel.

I'll throw another variable in. I just got one of the new threaded lite barrels. In comparison to my 24" fluted superlite barrel it has the same contour with a 22.25" length. The lite barrel is 1.8 oz heavier (same caliber).

You guys are tripping if you’re going to sit here and say you can feel that difference. I bet if we wrapped a piece of butcher paper around the barrels and had 2 guns with the same battle length, same cartridge, you wouldn’t be able to tell which one was which.

I have multiples of bot lite and super lites all with similar barrel lengths and I can’t tell a difference for the life of me when it comes to characteristics of the rifles. For that reason, I don’t care at all which one I get when I buy a tikka.

I only care because the Superlites cost more and threading in the flutes bugs my OCD for cosmetic reasons. But, if the Superlite was cheaper, I'd get over the cosmetics pretty easy.

I'd go with a lite or super lite. Have both and love them both equally. Definitely get stainless its only a little more. I think the rough techs look nice but I don't see the need especially for the up charge for one.

Also you didn't directly ask about recommendations on caliber, you just said " thinking 6.5 prc" so I will just throw out there that I hunt everything you listed and you can drop down in caliber if you choose no problem.

I get whichever one is cheapest, if supernates are on sale or I'm at sportsman's warehouse when Im buying that's wha tI'll get, when I'm ordering off gun broker, it's always the lite model since supernates are just sold at cabalas and sportsmans.

I get the aesthetics but Kampfeld does a good job making them look good when he cuts them.

I looked pretty hard at that Tikka Ace Game but the weight was too much for the kind of backpack hunting I had in mind. I think it was a full 2 pounds heavier than the Sig Sawtooth 6.5prc I ended up buying. I would have preferred a fluted steel barrel over the Proof Carbon barrel. The jury is still out on the carbon after putting 40rds through it
