Tikka Nitriding

I was thinking of doing the UM action lightening mod, then instead of nitriding, doing the NT7 coating from Wright Armory (used to be called NP3). It’s an electroless nickle-Teflon coating.

Did you get this worked out? Curious to hear what was required to get the reliability others talk about.
I'm not sure I'm following the reliability comment. I've only been able to get about 150 rounds downrange on this rifle before spinning the barrel off and sending it back to UM. No reliability issues noted on my end.

It's simply just not as smooth as my half-dozen other Stainless/Blued/Ember-fluted actions. Completely functional, just feels more like a Savage action now :ROFLMAO:

I’m trying to learn what troubleshooting might be required if I get mine nitrided. Did you try the olive/avocado oil like Form mentioned?

I did oil it and it ran almost as good as my bone dry factory action. I usually only grease the lug.

By all means, dump a bunch of cash to risk new problems, but I’ll never muck with a factory tikka action again.

I got my action nitrided through UM. Originally a blued action. I can say that it is significantly smoother and better than the original blued or my .223 action and my buddies stainless action. To me it feels like a very expensive aftermarket action. It’s like butter. And it looks good on top of it all.

I’ve fingered hundreds of the nitrided actions, I won’t lighten another one but I would definitely have them nitrided.

The Tikka action was built to run in all weather conditions. Cutting the bridge off makes it more susceptible to failure in wet, snowy, or dusty conditions.

In relation to that, I think the Raven should have been designed with an AR-style dust cover for the action port. That would be absolutely dope!

Baby steps:)

I've thought about that as well. It is amazing how much crap it keeps out of the receiver.

Got my stainless action done by a local shop down in Houston. As smooth or smoother than pre nitride.
What did they do?

Also... does anyone that has a nitrided action see the nitride getting worn on the high-friction components?

I had a Tikka action and bolt cerakoted, and the more I'm running the bolt, the more that the cerakote is starting to wear through. It was done by one of the most reputable guys in the industry, so I know it was done right. I'm just wondering if I should get it nitrided instead.
