Exterra Tikka/ Howa Bolt Knob Design

Probably a dumb question, but the only difference between the Hunter and the Tactical is aesthetic, correct?

The Tactical is slightly larger in diameter & the helical grooves on it offer more grip and leverage.

Just a followup - I purchased a Hunter extension for a Howa Mini and installed it today. The machining is impeccable and the attachment is solid. The bolt is now much easier to manipulate. I am very happy with it!

Glad you like it, thanks for the nice review on our Howa bolt knob. It’s great to hear about them going to good homes :)

Just got my tactical knob and installed it.

Looks great and makes the rifle feel premium. I'll note that the picture makes the finish look different than factory but it matches well in person. The bolt is now even easier to open.

I will say it's about as tight as i can get it, but if i manage to twist it, it wants to pull out the sleeve. I was thinking it needs a little more fiction inside the bolt knob to grab onto. What do you think about lightly sanding the inside of the factory knob to give it something to bite?

Glad you like it. Generally the bore on the factory bolt has enough surface roughness to provide grip to keep the knob from being able to be twisted by hand. If that bore is overly smooth, roughing it up with some coarse grip sandpaper would tighten that up. If that doesn’t get it tight enough for your application, let me know on Tuesday & we’ll fix you up.
