Tikka mags: Orange, 223, flush, etc. project / future product

@pods8 (Rugged Stitching),
Did you say the 4 rd 223 mags allow a COAL of 2.55”?
That length dummy round +/- 10 thou or so will fit with minimal clearance in the current prints. The material shrinks a little when its annealed (initially 2.575" fits). Maybe to be conservative we say 2.5" which easily fits.

I've been using 75eldm for the dummy rounds and I can't close the bolt on my gun on a round 2.55" (or 2.575") long, I can run the bolt to strip the round out of the mag and push it until it hits the lands then pull it back. In my gun 2.48" is the longest I can close the bolt on with the 75eldm, at that length I can cycle dummy rounds through mags easily / quickly / slowly / with green eggs and ham.

Is there a need for something longer?

I think 2.55” is good. I had some freebore added to my barrel. I had around 75 thou added if I measured correctly. But with a 75 ELD I think my COAL is right around 2.5”

The 75s aren't held in by much when I'm making those longer dummy rounds, I think at 2.55" the bearing surface is seated in less than half the neck length.

I want to say I’m right close to 2.5”. The reason I don’t know for sure is that I’m wrapping up building a house for myself and my reloading setup is packed up. I do know that my CBTO using the Hornady comparator is 1.983” when listing at 20 thou off the lands.

I've been running off the rest of the material on hand making mostly 223mags, I have a batch annealing right now and will post up what is available here for those that have been following along after I inspect them. It will only be a dozen or so of orange and black.

I'll get more material in and launch this officially. It'll be a couple/few weeks to get material, print out a bunch, anneal them. I'll post up a for sale thread in the classifieds to note current inventory (I'll update the main post), collect ongoing requests, etc. so this thread isn't continually being bumped for coordinating sales.

In terms of requests I'll need to know the full detail of the request:
-Which type of mag: 223, M+, etc

-Which size: the standard foot print mags are 3rd of most cartridges, 4rds of 223. The TRULY FLUSH are 2rds of most cartridges, TBD on how many 223 (I'll take the time while I am waiting for material to model/print out that size in a different material to test how many fit).

-Body color: orange or black. Note: standard offering I intent to pair it with the opposite color follower for visual contrast which I think looks nicer, if there is a strong preference for a custom request for matching color follower I can accommodate if clearly stated.

Initially these are going to be $35ea (complete with spring) + $5shipping (for all items in one shipment).

Please note at this time I have no intention of making a magazine bigger than 3rd (4rd 223), it was very expensive to custom order the springs for this project and will take time to recoup costs. As of now there is no intention for 6rd or 10rd mags.

Mag bodies either designed or on the radar:
-223 4rd & Flush 223 TBD round count
-M+ 3rd & Flush 2rd
-L 3rd & Flush 2rd (these do not fit PRC, WSM, SAUM/UM)
-PRC 3rd & Flush 2rd (~3" COAL)
-6UM 3rd & Flush 2rd (~3" COAL), these will fit WSM

Potential:
-A 6ARC / BR type mag. 2.55" COAL was suggested earlier for that. This isn't designed yet so if the ARC shooters have feedback on the length let me know.
-A longer WSM if there is desire.

If these turn out to be a durable, reliable solution for 223 mags then that will be a great price point and I bet you'll sell a pile of them. I'll be in for 2 to start for sure.
