Tikka 243 1in8

I happened to stop in a Gunshop on a trip nearby and score 8lbs of h4831sc for $374 out the door. I haven’t seen it that cheap anywhere lately. Time to test that 44-45gr window loading some 108eldm’s out to 2.800”. Hornady manual claims 47.4gr is the top out, hodgdon claims 44.7gr. GRT says 45.5 is about the limit.
I’m at the Outer Banks and will be driving home tomorrow. Could you share the shop where you found the H4831sc? If the shop is on the route back home I may check it out if it’s close.

Thanks

Dropped by and picked up some H4831sc on the way home this afternoon. It was only a couple miles off I40 and only took a few minutes.

Thanks again for the heads up.
They’ve got a good selection of ammo, bullets, and powder.

They sure do plus good selection of military surplus clothes. I could have spent awhile in there but we’d been on the road for 6 hours and the wife was with me. Hard to shop with the wife looking over my shoulder. lol

So I did my test shots today in NC now that satan took his hands off the thermostat and we have lower humidity and temps.

I was expecting more velocity out of
H4831sc, and other than the cold bore flier, it’s an acceptable grouping. image_cropper_5FE2C5E0-5589-49D8-970A-F97132898BFE-36013-000005227EF6F77B.jpeg

I was also told H4350 was gonna be a really good option, and boy was it. It put me in the 2700fps window in a 16.5” barrel!! I only loaded 5 because I achieved such good results from shooters world long rifle, it just lacks the speed. image_cropper_42AB3782-5080-4120-80B8-3CBEA689C171-36013-00000524562B8B6F.jpeg

After running a ballistic calculator with any of these loads it’ll perform out past 400y, which is way over what I’ll shoot. Just wanted to share my results for anyone interested.

This H4350 load you have is the exact load I run to a T - but I push 2900 out of an 18” - how many rounds are down your barrel? Because I’d be expecting 2800 at least out of that setup in 16.5”.

Probably nearing 80 at this point. 108’s were the only bullet I was considering. Recently picked up so 90gr tgk’s so they’ll go down the pipe soon just to see what they’ll do.
