I had feeding issues with a relatively new t3x 223 and came to the conclusion that the magazine was junk. I googled up a metal one to find in uk they have steel lips on a plastic mag. Orderd a couple and when they arrived im quite impressed with the functionality. I wonder why tikka didnt release these in usa?

Curious where you rustled up the mags with steel feed lips? How pricey is it to get them shipped here? Same COAL I assume?

The issue with the Tikka 223 factory mags is the magazine springs, not the feed lips. It’s also more common in the 6-round mags than the 4-round mags. I called Beretta’s USA customer service and asked about this. They said it was a known issue due to a parts supplier, but did not have a fix for it other than stretching the mag spring. I have not experienced or heard of feeding issues with tikka mags in other calibers.

There are some aftermarket 223 mag options that work well. The best in my opinion is the Waters Rifleman mags out of Australia. They are pricey, but work really well and can be had in 6 and 10-round versions. I bought a few of their 6-rounders. It hurt my pocket, but the rifle feeds hugely better. @Formidilosus has also posted good results with the 10-round mamba mags which are cheaper, but are also larger. Both the Waters and Mamba options are metal. The Mambas are metal in the top portion that inserts into the mag well and are polymer below. There isn’t currently an aftermarket mag that is close to flush-fit and reliable that I am aware of.

these mags are made by tikka. So far they are perfect. They seem to replace the original 4 round exay except they have stainless steel steel lips.

Interested to see what you got. Can you send us the link to the model you bought off this page?

Ive not taken these to the range, ive hunted and thus cycled the gun a few days. I know that sounds bad but im 60 years old and have had guns lots of them. (A bunch that didnt work) ive cycled the ammo through the gun in my shop for practice alot . Zero malfunctions. If i took a plastice mag and perssed down on the case head of a loaded mag i was sure to have a miss feed, you can load these any how poke and prod them install the loaded mag and it feeds. The spring is much better, it seems to have the same tension the full length of the follower.. i still cant load the picture, but the label says magazine 4rd low au tikka tx3/t3. Short 204 ruger, 222rem, 223r

Appreciate you sharing these mags. That wasn’t a source I had looked at. Please keep us posted on how they perform. My Tikka factory 6-round 223 mags performed fine for 200-300 rounds and then started failing regularly. All magazines are perishable goods, but a couple hundred rounds for a $70 magazine seemed excessive to me. Hope yours last you a long time and a pile of ammo.

Guessing it’s these. Had not seen them before. They are indeed made by Tikka.

Yes indeed

Good to know. I figured these were pretty new and the jury was still out. How many rounds have you put through them this far?
Approaching 125 rounds through the mag I have. Only one issue, and I should have inspected it to see what the issue was when it happened. I think I was in the middle of shooting up a prairie dog town and just ran the bolt again and it fed. So far so good. They feed really slick. You could also do the mags from Ascension and utilize the factory spring. Those are flawless from what I hear.

Thanks for this insight. My issue is indeed with the 6rd mag, the spring seems weak and thus the force upward on the follower is lacking. The bolt occasionally rides over top of the round without catching the rim.

I'll look into the other mag options, thanks for bringing this topic up, OP!
