this was the year I thought... yep I am done buying... I am such a liar.

SHTF, I sat in the REI chair the other night at the store. I'm 210 and at seemed to hold pretty well, but I figure my big azz would bury them skinny legs in any type of soft earth, possibly gett 'tippy'. I was double sure to settle my weight slowly into the chair, because my initial impression was "no way is that gonna hold my big azz". Still don't believe it, but it did hold...
For the price and the weight of the REI chair, I didn't think it worth it to sit on eggshells, waiting for an impending collapse. Might not happen, but there was just something about ithe chair that didn't feel sturdy enough to me? Anyhoo, I wound up ordering a Kifaru Field Chair, and I am going to treat the fabric with that Rustoleum Never Wet crap. I don't care what color it changes the fabric, I just want my azz to stay dry when I use it. And the 'gritty' feel of the Never Wet on cordura will keep my azz from sliding down.

Just sayin', I'd sit on one of these chairs yourself before ordering blind...

30 seconds to put together

seems very well made

I think it will last several years.

First time I saw these chairs was on the MR site as they now make them (material anyways). Seems like a cool chair and would be great for base camp on fly in hunts. How long does it take to build? And how durable do the legs feel? Do you think it will last for a long time?

Big price tag for a chair, but if it's built well and will last, money well spent right?

Its not the same chair.. REI is a little smaller and leg system is a little different.

here I am minding my own business and doing a little shopping on Amazon ( for office supplies ) and spot this little camo camp chair...

A chair is worth its weight in gold while back at camp.. So I searched the name and found several reviews. Almost all 5 star.

Yeah I know its very expensive.. ugh

I bought a similar chair made by ALITE called a mayfly chair around same price but low to ground and at night when your aching legs need a rest its worth every penny. I like the lower model for elk hunting cause i'm cooking of the ground and I don't have to be bent over as Im doing it.

I have one of the REI chairs and I think they are rated at 250#
I got one hell of a funny look in the store when I, all 260#, was giving the chair a load test........ :)

I just bought one of the blue helinox chairs new, on ebay , for 71.00 & free shipping. I heard about them today at lunch and then saw this thread. Im packin it with me. two lbs or not! LOL

Its comfort level is amazing for a tiny little package.

Well, I have to admit that I was intrigued by the Helinox and picked on up. Just got it the other day so don't have any field experience with it yet but I have to say that I think it will serve its purpose well. For any base camp or short hike situations I think it will get the nod. I haven't tried any of the others but this one is quite comfortable and easy to get in and out of. I am a little concerned as it seem it could bend if you lean back in it too far but that can be avoided.

I spent 10 days in the back country of ID with mine.... LOVED it..... I will pack it every hunt.

Other guys were sitting on logs and I was in my lazyboy ( they called it)

After day 2..where did you buy it? how much was it? want to sell it?

And, how about this for a rationalization...

Ditching the SL5 nest (2lb12oz) for a TI Goat bivy (8oz) and using trekking poles instead of the SL5 pole (12oz) allows me to bring along the chair (2lb) and still save a pound :D

kind of along the same lines took a lawn chair to Iraq when I deployed after the first week some one offered me 50 bucks for it and I sold it. Not long afterwards I was offering him a hundred to get it back and he would just laugh. I regretted that decision for the whole deployment
