Folks,

The National Park Service is purportedly promoting a gathering near Yellowstone National Park this weekend entitled “Speak for Wolves.” Suggesting that “it is time to completely reform wildlife management in America” the purpose of the event is to advance an agenda to:

o End grazing on all federal public lands.
o Ban trapping/snaring on all federal public lands.
o Reform how state fish and game agencies operate.
o Abolish the predator-control department of USDA Wildlife Services.
o Introduce legislation to protect all predators, including wolves, from sport hunting, trapping, and snaring.

Considering the impacts to elk, moose and mule deer herds from unmanaged/undermanaged predator populations, the impacts from these proposals would only deepen the loss of wildlife on America’s public lands. We are also concerned about the increasing radicalism of special interest groups whose agenda threatens balanced use of our natural resources and a future of abundant wild game herds in America. Just as important, is the reminder of the need to be vigilant on efforts to erode our rights to hunt, fish, trap and utilize our public lands.

We are working to determine whether the allegations that the National Park Service is promoting this event are true. It begs the question as to why a United States Federal Governmental Agency would help promote a rally with such an extreme agenda.

We will continue to provide updates as we learn more.

Big Game Forever

Here is the full promotion, purportedly from the National Park Service:

Rally At Yellowstone National Park Aims To Boost Public Support For Wolves In The Wild

Editor's note: A rally to raise public awareness about wolves in and around Yellowstone National Park is scheduled for late June near the north entrance to the park at Gardiner, Montana. The following release came from the program's organizers.

The establishment of Yellowstone National Park in 1872 represents one of the greatest achievements in American history, affording protection to one of our country’s true wild places. Appreciation for this action, and the land it preserved, is increasing with each passing generation. And Yellowstone is much more than an American treasure; it is an international jewel, attracting millions of people from all over the world every year.

Fast-forward 123 years to 1995 and 1996, when the federal government, at the behest of the American people, released 66 gray wolves into Yellowstone. After one of America’s most iconic species was brought to near extinction through hunting, trapping, poisoning, and other government-funded methods in the 19th and 20th centuries, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service finally began to recover this internationally beloved species. And, because of its wildness and large size, as well as its complement of abundant prey species, Yellowstone was one of two places chosen to welcome the wolves home. Idaho was the second place.

On June 28-29, 2014, people of all walks of life are invited to attend Speak for Wolves: Yellowstone 2014, a 2-day family-friendly celebration of wolves, predators and other native species that contribute to our rich national heritage. The event will be held at Arch Park in Gardiner, MT, just north of the Roosevelt Arch, near the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Speak for Wolves: Yellowstone 2014 will feature prominent speakers and authors from the conservation community, and will include live music, education booths, children’s activities and food vendors. The event is free and open to the public.

In addition to daytime activities at Arch Park, the screening of two wildlife documentaries will occur on Saturday evening, June 28, at 7 pm. The films will be shown at the Gardiner Community Center, which is located at 210 W. Main Street in downtown Gardiner. Organizers will be showing Predator Defense’s film, Exposed: USDA’s Secret War on Wildlife and Project Coyote’s film, Coexisting with Wildlife: The Marin Livestock and Wildlife Protection Program. The films will be followed by a panel discussion composed of conservationists and scientists. The films are free.
Speak for Wolves: Yellowstone 2014 is an opportunity for the American people to unite and demand wildlife management reform, and to take an important step toward restoring our national heritage. Unbeknownst to many Americans, over 3,000 gray wolves have been slaughtered across America, including around Yellowstone National Park, since certain segments of the wolf population were prematurely stripped of federal protection under the Endangered Species Act just a few years ago. The controversial delisting of the northern Rockies gray wolf was the first time Congress intervened and delisted a species in the 40-year history of the Endangered Species Act.

A public rally is scheduled for late June to raise awareness about wolves/Monty Sloan
Lengthy hunting seasons now occur in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Hunters are permitted to hunt wolves with dogs in Wisconsin. Barbaric trapping/snaring seasons exist in Idaho. The USDA Wildlife Services just gunned-down 23 wolves from a helicopter in a rugged national forest in Idaho. In just 20 years, the federal government has completely reversed its course on the biological recovery of the gray wolf, and is now in the business of wiping them out again.

While many people are calling for relisting of gray wolves under the Endangered Species Act, others are saying that it is time to completely reform wildlife management in the United States.
Event organizers for Speak for Wolves: Yellowstone 2014 have developed the following five keys to reforming wildlife management in America:
* Ban trapping/snaring on all federal public lands.
* End grazing on all federal public lands.
* Abolish the predator-control department of the USDA Wildlife Services.
* Reform how state fish and game agencies operate.
* Introduce legislation to protect all predators, including wolves, from sport hunting, trapping, and snaring.

Please consider attending Speak for Wolves: Yellowstone 2014. The only thing that can save the gray wolf from a second extermination is a strong grassroots movement consisting of every-day people. Let’s come together and embark on this journey together. Let’s make the world a better place, for not only current generations, but also for those generations still to come

It makes sense from a political standpoint. We have an extremely radical White House right now. We've had repeated attacks against the 2nd amendment. If they can remove hunting from the equation then it makes further attacks against the 2nd amendment that much easier.

Ahhh.. I see what you did there...

In all seriousness that is NOT a good idea. Frankly I'm surprised something like this has not happened before. Especially with trapping on public land, most find it cruel and don't understand it, when done right It is very effective, especially against smaller predators. I would think that people would realize predators don't really need protecting.

They got their nose in the tent with wolves and now they want to move in and kick everyone else out. If you really understand how anti human these people are it would outrage you. The end game is pusing all people into tightly controlled cities and not allow any freedom of travel. These are totalitarian eco socialist. They also want to control all water and do away low cost public water supplies. Their ambition is to control where you can live , the water and food you eat , and if you can travel outside of your designated area. A total police state in the name of "saving" the earth.

Wow.... I am pretty speechless right now. Give me a little time to process that radicalism.

x2 here.... Its put on by the same people that believe that native american's lived in harmony with each other and nature, only took what they needed, etc, and we would be better off going back to that time. When in reality that time was cold, dark and dangerous, and where the average life expectancy was 40.

Lets release the wolves back to their natural habitat in the east and see if the tune changes.

Really !? Why would people whose feet never leave the pavement and have no idea where their food comes from think that a pretty little fox is any different than their maltese named fifi ? Or that a bobcat is any different than their cat tigger ? It's evil people leading ignorant people , and there are a LOT of ignorant people in cities to vote for evil.

There is a lot of truth in what you are saying. Have you ever tried to reason with an uninformed person who has made up their mind about something they no nothing about?

I liken it to this story. viewers frustrated baby eagle dies on webcaml Alot of the folks think all the meat comes from the supermarket, etc. They dont realize that nature is a harsh and unforgiving environment. In the case of birds of prey, 75% of all birds hatched do not make it to their first birthday, at 5 years 90% of the birds hatched in a given year are dead, but the folks that think all nature is like a bambi movie have no clue.

What can we as hunters do to fight back?

How do we rally to stop them?

I'm a member of several conservation organizations and donate a lot of my time, but at this point, I don't feel like its enough.

What do we do to show the "rational" people who might be on the fence on the wolf issue or just hunting in general that what we do is ok?

What's worse yet is there are plenty of fellow hunters that have no clue about why the wolf and now grizzlies are reintroduced for and welcome them in the lower 48.

Seems like everyone is to touchy feely these days about management of natural resources. There are exploitations taking place, that should not be allowed to go on. But I hear about it at work from the public when we cut mature hardwood timber. People complain that we are destroying pristine landscapes. When in actuality we are doing the resource a favor and regenerating the species, since the standing timber is past its life span and is falling over. Without our intervention the favorable species would disappear all together and then the key species will disappear and start a chain reaction to a landscape void of most animal life.

Wish people would slow down and think about things these days instead of making knee jerk decisions and rationales. This also holds true to the entirety of our gov. these days.

It's called ecology... The interactions between all living and non living things. Of which humans are a huge part of. Some ppl just don't get that.
