The only Barnes Bullet I have ever recovered. Wife shot a WT buck through both scapulas at 15 yards from my 300 blackout 8” SBR.

With all the love for the Hammer bullets im surprised i have not seen any of them on here. I just ordered some and was hoping to see what they have done on animals.

I don’t have a picture of the bullet to share but I recently shot a bull moose with a 196gr hammer hunter out of a 300winmag at 150 yards and it worked exactly as advertised. The bullet passed through but I found a few small fragments from the petals on the far side ribs/shoulder. I believe it was one of the fragments that hit the heart also.

I am interested to hear how they expand and perform at some longer ranges.

Couple of 165 accubonds from my ‘06 on the left. They tend to weigh 118-125 grains after they’re pulled out of an animal. The three to the right of the Barnes are a pair of 150 grain nosler solid base from a .270 and one 140 grain .277 accubond in the middle of the trio.

The Barnes is a 180 tsx from my ‘06 that hit a whitetail buck at about 15 yards doing 2820-2830 FPS behind the front shoulders in the spine as he was running up hill away from me. It cored through the spine from about a foot behind his shoulders up to his neck through the neck and was under the hide just below his chin. I had a pic of it on the scale and it weighs 180.0 grains.

It’s still the only Barnes I’ve ever stopped. I’ve got a box of recovered bullets but these are the only pics on my phone.

Nosler partition 150 grain from a 270win at about 100 yards. Recovered in the offside hide of a bull elk.

This is the second year in a row I’ve used the partition in my 270 win. Both times I was able to recover the bullet from a bull elk. Strongly suggest them!

Shot a mule deer with a 7mm 172gr absolute hammer, muzzle velocity 3,115. Deer was 40 yards quartering to. Entrance front of shoulder, exit mid rib. Nothing to show. Damage was quite impressive. There was a 4” chunk of lung hanging out the entrance hole once I got the skin back. Only shot 2 deer with hammers, both very fast kills and nothing to recover

Maybe hammers always penetrate, hard to recover😗

Hit the nail on the head. Killed two so far this year with Hammers and they don't lend themselves to recovery much. Basically get the four shed petals that may or may not be in the wound cavity, and then the penetration core tends to exit.

About all I ever expect to recover from a Hammer. 7SAUM, 3020 MV, 155 Hammer Hunter, 550yard shot quartering-toward on a good size bull elk. These petal fragments were recovered at the exit (just behind rear rib)...

Both bullets below are .30 cal Barnes TTSX BT 180 gr.

I don’t have a scale, so I don’t know abut weight retention (but it’s obviously high). I also don’t have a chrono, but based on the factory data, these were both probably moving at about 2600 FPS.

First one was from a 18-month old cow at about 80 yds. Bullet when in through the shoulder, found it in the ball joint area of the off-side shoulder (not my best shooting but very fatal).

Next was a 40 yard frontal shot on a spike elk. Found the bullet just under the skin next to his junk.

140gr ttsx out of 7mag on mule deer at 300 yards.. still no recovered barnes ttsx's. I will say not much of a blood trail on this one as he was quartered away so entrence was mid ribs exit was right behind the shoulder. Deer ran 75ish yards dropped.

Here are two bullets for this past weeks deer hunt.
The first one is my 168 grain Amax out of a 308. The buck was shot at 350 yards with velocity being around 2125 on impact. Went through bother rips and stuck under the hide. Recovered bullet weighed 127.5 grains

The 2nd bullet is a 165gr Gameking BTSP out of a 308. The buck was shot around 80 yards with impact velocity around 2510. Went through rips and hit opposite shoulder. Recovered bullet weight 70.2

Both bucks dropped

Recovered both 178 ELD X bullets shot from my .308 from this years bull moose. First shot was broadside at about 100yds. Took a second quarting away shot in hopes that he would fall were he was. Shortly after the second shot his back legs gave out and he stumbled backwards and still went off the edge. Both bullets were recovered on the far side within 4 inches of eachother.
