While we're off the topic ...

And another thing: I'm tired of the rest of you with usernames that are not only anonymous, but also make you sound like something you're not.

Like:
@fwafwow - what are you pretending to be, Yosemite Sam?
@PNWGATOR - c'mon man, we know there's no gators in the PNW. Duh.
@mxgsfmdpx - stop pretending you're dyslexic; we all know you can spell just fine. Stop playing the disability card and go shoot more.
@ElPollo - we know you're not really a Spanish chicken. Fess up.
@Ryan Avery - just stop pretending to be the real Ryan Avery. Stolen valor, man.

And to that Dobermann guy ... pretending to be a scary dog online. Stop being a d!ck, dude.
@ doobieman. Please save some for the rest of us and pass it to the left hand side. Happy new year.

I heard @PNWGATOR started the rokslide 223 thread and he used to party in Gainesville with Tebow, Aaron Hernandez, and the Pouncey brothers back in the day.
Pshaw!

Didn't that thread get bundled up yesterday in a critique of being "the SCFBG movement"? (Not kidding, but going to link here as no more oxygen required,)

That clearly makes him more suspicious - first, he wants to start a "cult"; now it's a whole "movement".

Clearly, you can't trust gators from the PNW ...

Let me start by saying that I too have found experimental truth in much of what @Formidilosus has preached. I have changed my equipment and training based on his guidance, with good results.

My only "gripe" with Form's cloak of mystery is the potential for conflicts of interest. I know he has stated adamantly and repeatedly that he does not make money from his reviews, recommendations, training classes, etc, and that he does not work in "the industry". But I must say I am skeptical that he is not receiving compensation from any of these collaborations. It would be extremely abnormal for someone not to be compensated for something they spend so much time and money on. And he very clearly is engaged with many companies directly in developmental product testing (ie not just as a retail customer). One could even interpret his tests/reviews/posts as a form of marketing. He has also referenced working with ballisticians in the past, which is a highly specialized skillset that would rarely be found outside the firearms/ammunition/military industry.

So without a good explanation as to how he makes a living, how he spends so much time shooting and hunting (and posting on this forum), where he gets his experience and data base, and what he stands to gain from the success/failure of various products, the mind is left to wonder...

If the data checks out, then wondering makes no difference.

Credentials are a way to build trust. That’s all.

There is no connection between credentials and authenticity of scientific data. The wonderful thing about the scientific method is that it doesn’t require credentials to establish truth (quite the contrary!) if you follow the same method and get different results, then there is no truth.

If someone says, “Trust me, I am a scientist/expert/whatever,” they are really saying, “I have been trained to follow a process which experts generally agree will lead to consistent, repeatable results.” But, as with anything important, “trust, but verify.” If the “expert” says, “trust me, I am an expert. No, you can’t see my methods or results”, then I would not trust them.

Form isn’t asking anyone to trust him. He’s reporting methods and data. If you get different data using the same methods, then you can start wondering about possible motives or reasons why the data doesn’t check out.

I understand where you're coming from in terms of trusting data over credentials.

However, I must say that I have not ever seen a comprehensive set of data furnished by @Formidilosus. I have heard him give some very precise numbers, for instance on time to incapacitation, accuracy as a function of many variables and shooter inputs, that ALLUDE to a large data set, but I have not seen this data set.

Yes I'm aware of the many pictures and accounts shared by him and others, to me these constitute more of a "testimony set" than a "data set". Without some kind of tabular raw data where all these effects are quantified, analyzed, and shared for peer review/independent assessment, I would not call this a "rigorous data set".
