JVB is back on the caliber/terminal performance debate again. This time it’s Buffalo.

All shots were under 200 yards, sounds like it was mostly cows. He didn’t seem to pay much attention to bullet construction, just more “bigger is better.“. An interesting listen. Evidently a 6.5 CM in the head kills better than a 7 PRC in the head. Other highlights include a .243 rodeo (with unknown soft points) and the host explaining how 10 minutes is just “too long to die” when hit with a single 6.5 CM round to the lungs. But most of the episode is just a love letter to kinetic energy and big holes.

So, we know 6 UM will kill a giraffe but what about a buffalo?

Don't forget the fact that the only drt kill they mentioned of all the calibers and bullets used in that 'hunt' was a kid using a 22-250 and 50 grain varmageddon bullets.

That podcast was the definition of hot steaming garbage. The guests described "bullet failures" and poor shot placement using everything from 22-250 to 300whizbang. But, JVB really wanted to drive home that the smaller calibers extra-failed.

I'm sure the level of shooting prowess observed at a 1200 acre bison farm is top notch. Sounds like the kind of place that people who get a lot of rounds down range every year would go to.

You all can't help yourselves. Stop giving them clicks/listens
I’m genuinely interested in the debate. I want to know the truth and to get there I think we need lots of discussion from diverse viewpoints. I plan to have me and my boys shoot elk this year with 6 ARC and 6 CM but I still want all the info I can get.

I was disappointed with the latest JVB podcast because they ignored failures of larger cartridges, under played the success of smaller cartridges, ignored bullet construction etc.

I will keep listening in case he can provide information/points I have not considered as I move from a “bugger bullets kill better” guy to a more pragmatic approach (as outlined in this forum)

Maybe .30 cal. The Mosin Nagant, SKS and AK. 9mm maybe close used by the same groups of people. Just guessing.

Exactly. Commies made a lot of bodies with those calibers. Most killed in WW1 and WW2 were 30 cal or larger as well. The vast majority of human firearms mortality have not been caused with 22 cal.

Ditto for big game.

Also, none of this "what caliber killed the most things in history" talk is relevant. We're talking about effectiveness on game, with modern projectiles, with an eye towards effective incapacitation and death with as few rounds as possible.

Agreed, just triggered a throught in my head if you added up every squirrel etc. killed with a 22lr, where would that put us. Could still be 30 cal.

Done with this subject, carry on.

Think if the commies had mono metal bullets how deadly they would have been.
