22lr Handguns-Reviews, Recommendations, and Trouble Shooting

The UDX frame with the slightly curved backstrap and small finger grooves fit my hand, and point better, than any other BM option. Only downside is, LOK is about the only option for aftermarket grips for the UDX's....

I have a Browning Buckmark, S&W 22X, and Taurus TX22. They've all been great.

Found a 5” Hammerli Forge for sale locally.
Price was below msrp, so I decided to pick it up based on the positive reviews from you guys.

Slick front strap and slick mainspring housing got some grip tape. I also put some extra G10 grips on that I had lying around.

The trigger initially felt about like the double action pull on a beretta. Heavy 8-10lbs. Clean break but heavy. I pulled the mainspring housing, and the problem was immediately obvious. The sear spring leaves had a ridiculous amount preset bending. There was also a heavy weight grease packing in and around the trigger bow, sear, and disconnector. Everything got cleaned up, and the sear spring set was adjusted.
Post adjustment trigger pull felt crisp, about 4lbs.

Next I looked at the sights. Novak style, but 3 white dots. I blacked out the rear, and added a fluorescent green/yellow paint to the front dot. Pretty happy with the result. I’ll look at the Dawson fiber sights after a little time with these.IMG_1042.jpegIMG_1043.jpeg

I lubricated with some lithium grease mixed with atf, and went out to the range after work.
Did my usual drills, cycling through both mags about 10 times. No malfunctions, good positive ejection. Good feeding. No light strikes. All shot with federal 40gr AutoMatch.

So far seems like a winner.

5” Hammerli just rolled over its first 500 rounds without issue.
Dawson sights arrived. Took a minute to get them installed. Used calipers to center the front sight.
Then did a walk back test starting at 10yds, and ending at 50. It now holds center, and is verified out to 50yds. IMG_1056.jpegIMG_1050.jpegIMG_1052.jpeg

Next I used some loctite 380 to set them in place. Basically using the capillary action of the glue to weep through any voids in the dovetails. IMG_1051.jpegIMG_1053.jpegIMG_1054.jpeg

Finally pulled the gun apart for a wear mark inspection. Everything looks G2G. No failures of any kind, and is insanely accurate. Really happy with this gun.IMG_1057.jpegIMG_1058.jpegIMG_1059.jpeg

Im about 1000 rounds into a glock 44, almost all with a dead air mask. Mostly federal 45gr suppressor loads. Very few hang ups so far. Have cleaned it twice.

lol
Literally the next round after putting the gun back together was a jam. IMG_1060.jpeg

Aggressive mag insertion, and probably a bit of finger pressure on the slide caused the nose of the bullet to hang up on the barrel.
That’s on me.

Gave it a quick fist bump on the back of the slide, and kept on shooting.

But the irony was too great to not comment on🤣🤣🤣

Looks decently wet still. This is one application of your homebrew, 500rds?

Yessir. Still on the first lube job.
We are starting to get a fine moon dust that settles on everything at my shooting spot. Breaking open the gun on my tailgate definitely got some of that silt in the action that wasn’t there before. I could feel it running a bit more gritty after reassembling.
But the lube seems to be holding up really well.

Good stuff. Would enjoy hearing what it finally tops out at. From the visible wetness and how much still seems to be on the gun, I'd guess it'll go at least another 500, maybe 1000 more or so.

I'm going to have to try this magic lube; and this Hammerli will be real tempting if I ever see the 5". I saw the 4" online at sportsmans for $200 - but just seems in this gun the 5" is what I would want...
