I didn’t “decide” it was Tract. However, their scope drastically failed the evaluation. They are one optics company that’s on here, and post from time to time. If Leupold was on here, I’d push back on them too. Simply trying to contact companies that are already on here.

You mentioned Tract in your post. I did not mention Tract. I just found your choice interesting I’ll say.

Someone really hurt Caylen's feelers with this drop test. He trashed it on youtube and now instagram. You would have thought @Formidilosus kicked his puppy.

Cayden is interesting. He seems quite knowledgeable in the area of training and shooting. I’d guess his use of Leupold is because he is not an equipment tester.

Both these guys (Caylen and JVB) are sponsored by Leupold, who has been stung as much as anyone by the scope tests. I wouldn't be surprised if this is comes at least indirectly from them, as they have a lot of reasons to try to discredit Rokslide. But who knows.....

JVB is who he is, he comes from the world of big businesses paying for good story’s online and on his podcast. He is not there to “test” equipment. He gets his Browning or other rifle in the mail. Mounts the free Leupold from another box, grabs a few boxes of Barnes or Hornady ammo from the free stack and goes hunting with those same companies. Any issues are just due to being in the wild and he jumps to the next rifle/scope/ammo. Then he writes some soft porn related to the equipment. I would guess he is a pretty good shot and hunter.


The other key point in jvb is just continuing the classic larger bullet diameter x larger bullet weight x bullet toughness x bc = authority.

Where S2H and others are saying better accuracy through low recoil x velocity for expansion x seeing what you hit = better game killing

You can't. The Diameter Instituted Cartridge Killing factor isn't large enough. If the D.I.C.K. factor isn't large enough, when you multiply the wallop by the oomph you get negative authority. Therefore those cartridges have no authority on game animals. You really need a big D.I.C.K. factor like that found in .308 and .338 calibers to provide ample wallop and oomph to get the property authority for hunting fuddlore game animals.

Just out of curiosity, why do you find it interesting? The reason I mentioned Tract specifically: their scopes fail the drop eval, and they are an optics company that is active here on the forum. Sure, I could email other scope companies, but they are right here on the forum and it’s easy to give a little pushback that we’d like some reliable scopes. Does that make sense?

To look at the other side, the first shoot2hunt they went on and on about shooting sooo many elk with 220 Swift years ago in Montana. While it may be legal now, anybody who knows Montana big game law, knows it was illegal then. ….but then again, the guest was talking about taking testosterone and other illegal substances for bodybuilding. I kind of passed over that one and have heard some much better podcasts…so….also, love the new intro. I guess my point is am I going to call them out as dopers and poachers? No. Besides, I think only the guest confessed to any crimes!

Appreciate the response! I too wish many more companies would make a tough scope. Maven got lucky. What they have admitted outright makes that clear. They don’t even believe that the 1.2 sold like hotcakes because of its durability. They honestly believe that they landed on a great feature set and that that alone is what has done it.

Still going use a POS scope, just going to check zero….. who has patience for that? Why is this the take away?…. So close and fumbles walking across the goal line.

What an idiot blaming the rings when it was clear that the scope hadn’t moved, the district pattern on the scope would have been smeared if it had.

It is always possible that a manufacturer will change its views/policy/approach. But FWIW, when asked directly, Jon L specifically said the drop testing isn't necessary for their scopes, which go through "testing" etc.

I talked to Jay(Mindful Hunter), who produces excellent, unbiased content. He agreed to come down and go through the drop test with us. We will go to the store, buy an MK5, and walk him through the test. He will video, and we will video. It will be great.

I suspect he would also pass up going for a drive for a couple hours on a washboard road sans any dropping. Too bad but I don’t think that will surprise anyone.

Pretty sure Ryan stated on the last podcast that Caylen had agreed to meet up after this month. Maybe he is not going to make the time like he said he would. I was skeptical when Ryan said he agreed but if he doesn’t it is what it is. That will tell you all you need to know. I mean “the proof is on the target and in the freezer” as he said.

I recall talking with Ryan at a NRL Hunter match last summer about possibly doing a special “side stage” at some of the matches. But maybe it’ll become a thing and if so, it’d be interesting to see
1) who participates and feels confident in their equipment and
2) what setups pass/fail.
Obviously having shooters drop their shit and saying pass/fail isn’t “scientific” there are way too many variables as you don’t know how said rifles/scopes are assembled but I’d guess there would still be a pattern. And maybe cause more commotion amongst other shooters/hunters than these guys dismissing the drop tests on their podcasts and amongst their groups.

Too bad. I was hoping he could see the light. It doesn’t make things better keeping your head in the sand. Dropping and falling happen. Am I just going to just stop hunting and fix/rezero my crap scope in mid hunt? Dang. Scope makers need to do better.

U can’t talk logic to some ppl until they see it. I had just zeroed my rifle this spring and was talking about the drop test with a buddy my dad was listening he seemed skeptical… I 100% dropped my gun right in the basement.

O no I walked right back outside and shot it! Should have added that info pops is not a believer even more after the same rifle rode in a trailer for 1700 miles pulled it out to check zero at 100 then dialed to a rock at 620 both great shots
