The Shemagh/Kufiya

FFS, read what I wrote. Repeatedly. It's absolutely mystifying that anyone could actually read the actual words, and write what you just did.

I don't GAS what you or anyone wears. My initial comment was just to ensure the OP knew that those are not meaningless patterns. The increasing detail was meant to clarify the specifics on how it works for those it wasn't quite clear for.

BTW, you literally just flew the vet bro flag, in response to being told it's vet bro flag, because you seem to be bothered that anyone might think it's a vet bro flag.
I did read what you just wrote, and I don’t see how you don’t see what I see, see?

Everything means something to someone. But you are beating the dead horse that this is like wearing tribal gang colors. Your words, not mine. I’m more concerning about a grizzly gnawing on my ass than I am about what message I’m sending.

I was trying to make light of the fact that you might be overthinking your wardrobe choices a little too much. I literally give as little thought to what “flags I’m flying” as I possibly can. I have enough worthwhile things to spend my mental energy on.

Which is ironic, considering that I have spent time in this thread…. Ah crap. I’m going to fence out and go to bed. And I’m flying a flag…. Trying to send an affiliation message to my wife.

Okay, once more for the kids on the short bus: everyone is hardwired for this behavior, to the point we don't realize we do it - but at a glance you know what tribes someone's claiming affiliation with.

It's subconscious, and semi-conscious.

It's also a 100% conscious and deliberate survival skill for those whose lives have been on the line undercover or overseas, requiring the ability to absolutely disappear into the background. Or to build rapport.

Every single item of clothing, your shoes, your watch, jewelry, haircut - even your godd*mned gait and body gestures will fly a tribal flag.

It's not about being judgy - it's about being aware of the messages you're sending and how they're being received. That is all.

It's also absolutely obvious to anyone thinking about it for a second.

Not sure why this is bothering you so bad, but the only other times I've seen such a severe reaction have been in instructing the supremely non self-aware who weren't filtered out early enough, who didn't realize they were flying their flags so hard. Especially for tribes they didn't earn the right to claim belonging in.

Ok. Well, you got me. I’m the one who is over reacting and letting this bother me. Totally guilty. It’s eerie, because it’s just so damn spot on, I checked my house to see if you have hidden cameras or something. All I found were my OnlyFans cameras, so you must have seen my gait and flip flops and you were able to make an exceptionally accurate judgement about the signals I was sending.

For myself, I have followed the conversation about the various patterns and their tribal significance with interest. It wasn't a thing I hadn't considered when looking at them but I absolutely will before I purchase.

It's obvious and the kilt reference was an apt one as is everything else you've said.

Thank you.

Does your whole point just boil down to the reaction of hypothetical losers? Earn the right to wear a patterned scarf in South Dakota? Are you saying he's going to get harassed by the military equivalent of Uncle Rico?

Ive made some similar out of old bed sheets over the years. Looking at the website these are made out of 100% cotton. Am I missing some benefits from the ones made in Afghanistan?

The afghan version is extremely light material and loose woven—you can watch TV through a single layer. So far I would say it makes it easier to breath through and also it doesn’t really hold a shape/forms to your face ( less dust intrusion).

I’ve been wearing the two nicer versions while mowing fields this week. The afghan seems less warm in heat, but blocks less dust. When I get hot I wet them down, so the Hirbawi although heavier material isn’t bothersome in 90 degrees and full sun.

I find the lose woven fabric tends to snag on anything when I brush bust. I generally only wear it when glassing. It’s there to block the sun both at the glass and on my head/neck. I don’t wear it otherwise, for the most part. It really shines keeping the sun out on long glassing sits.

Essentially, yes. Especially with my first comments. Because some of those dipsh*t losers are violent about it, and others can just occasionally be douchey. Everything after that was explaining how it works. Again, the whole intent of the first comments was just to make sure OP knows those patterns and colors have meanings, and that they're not inert.

Do not wear blue ones or red ones as there may be some Crip's or some Blood's out in the woods and we don't need gang violence while we are hunting. Nobody needs a drive-by while trying to stalk an elk!

I've worn them for many years. Tons of uses. Always in my pack. Works great to wrap around your inflatable pillows too , makes them feel a little better on the face
