I am purchasing this through Fidelity. SPIA is Single premium income annuity. There are no hidden fees, I am going to give them 1 million dollars in exchange for an insurance contract to provide me with $5076 a month for the rest of my life and my wife's life. If we die inside of the next 25 years the children will recieve the payments for the remainder of the guarantee period of 25 years. There is no with withdraws in the future, I have traded a lump sum for a guaranteed income stream. This annuity is through USAA and sold to me by Fidelity.I am not familiar with SPIA, I'm assuming it's an annuity.
The ONLY Annuity I would even consider is from one of the low cost/ low commission providers like Vanguard.
I have a couple buddies that sell those annuities and the hidden commission on those is outrageous. Read the fine print on early withdrawals- brutal.
That said, I can see where it makes sense for a retired person locking in a guaranteed payout...as long as its truly guaranteed.
