Yeah, but here in SoCal... it's just more wise to say "Harvest" when in mixed company.
i understand your point, but to me, it seems like "they" are winning when you feel the need to be overly PC to have a discussion, people have got so damn sensitive, and i don't want to add to that by becoming unnaturally PC myself.... i just have no desire to interact with people if i have to watch what i say in order to not offend them.... if they are that ignorant, what's the point? if shoot/kill is offensive to someone, using harvest will not put them on our side.

i'm not concerned with offending those who are offended by hunting, and don't care to talk to them unless they are open to an open minded debate, many aren't, a few are. if they are offended by shoot/kill in the context of hunting, harvest isn't going to change their views, and i don't want to feed into the disgusting PC crap that's running rampant in every facet of life.

many are walking around looking to be offended, i will never see eye to eye with those people, they will never vote to protect my way of life... i also won't go out of my way to be offensive in the context of hunting, but the reality of it is, it is what it is.... i spend a lot of time and effort seeking out animals to kill.... that's one small part of the process, but a big part of success.... i'm not going into the woods to deliver good news to the critters i have tags for, and unless i shoot a badger that makes it back into it's hole, i'm probably not picking it from the ground.

this spring i plan to harvest some morels, and kill some turkey and bear, and this afternoon when the weather settles a bit, i will be trying to call a lion, and if i see one, i won't be picking it, i will shoot it, skin it, cut the meat off and walk out with zero depiction of "harvest" i will absolutely enjoy the meat, but harvest does nothing to describe the process of hunting, and i'm not going to be unnaturally PC in case i offend someone by doing what i do.... the world is getting so annoyingly PC i refuse to add to it, we are enabling it by becoming PC ourselves, being PC isn't going to improve our position.... thinking before we speak and considering our audience is good, being PC isn't imo, and it's very different to me.

I guess I’m old and soft. Too old to switch over to politically correct words like harvest. But I also don’t use sayings like “I smoked his ass” either. Nothing against it. Nothing wrong with a hunter getting fired up and using phrases from his generation.

But old and soft also means respectful. I do not hunt anything I won’t eat. I do fill my freezer every year with elk and if I am down to 2 days left in my hunt and I can’t find a big bull I will shift gears to “grocery shopping” for smaller ones.

I’m all about the fun of hunting but I also see it as a way of life. A passion. But I think think there are other benefits besides meat and memories. It builds character. It teaches patience. It teaches us to get our asses out of bed on time if we expect to get anything done. It shows us that nothing is free and you have to work for what you want.

It also keeps us from losing touch with our animal instincts.

Ok now I’ll shift gears too…. That’s why the anti hunting pussies have no Fn clue about realities of life and the world. That’s why they think life should be nothing but a bowl of cherries beside a cup of Starbucks coffee and that we can have a world where nothing should offend anyone ever. They sit there eating a steak and bitch about us doing our own killing.

That’s all fine and frickin dandy but they also want to control or eliminate our way of life and that’s where I draw the line.

I kill shit but I still feel bad for the deer when we get ice storms and it’s sub zero out. I feel bad when I see a road killed doe. But if we had an open season on anti hunters I’d be the first one to punch my tag and show you a video where I said “Booyah I smoked his ass boys. Now off the the animal shelter to donate some meat!” Lmao

Am I an angry hunter? Sometimes. Lol
hell yeah! great reply

I posted this:
I am going to stick with harvesting animals. After all, when fruit and veggies are harvested, the anti's never consider what the land those crops were like before everything being plowed over, sprayed with pesticides, the life killed, the lives displaces, the permanent habitat changes ... Nope, they consider growing food as a green product that is pure. I say naw, hunting and HARVESTING animals is much much purer that farming, even if that farming is uses no pesticides... Farming is simply a destructive practice.

I do it to suck in the anti's, and point out their hypocrisy. I may not win their minds, but I usually leave them speechless.

"They" IMMENSELY outnumber us. When you don't have numbers on yours side, it's just plain wise to use verbiage that won't immediately put 'em on the defensive. If none of the logic you present to them penetrates, essentially we're doomed.

BTW... my immediate knee-jerk reaction when I read this sentence :

"i just have no desire to interact with people if i have to watch what i say in order to not offend them...."

Was... "Psssh... guess he must not be gettin' any p***y then."

My wife kills shit, so it all works out… she might (or should) kick me in the mouth if I said “I’m going to harvest some p***y tonight!”

Haha!!... took me a couple milliseconds longer before I keyed-in on your creative replacement use of the word "harvest" in place of "kill" in the above sentence! Golf Clap! Good Sir. Definitely a Golf Clap on that one!

"Backcountry". You see videos of folks claiming to be hunting the backcountry but shooting from a pull off on the road with truck in background. Uh Ok.

Yup. Almost makes me think we should have a thread, “What is your definition of backcountry?”. I mostly hunt what I’d consider “mid country”. To me the true backcountry is way back in where it wouldn’t be practical for me as a solo hunter to pack an elk out before it starts to spoil. The “front country” is anywhere within a mile of a road open to motorized vehicles. Mid country is in between where most road hunters will never go and most horse packers cruise right on through.

depends on context... referring to someone else, backcountry starts at about 6 miles from the trailhead... talking about your own hunting, backcountry starts about a half mile from your rig.

same thing with raghorn... see a 5 point in someone's camp "they killed a little raghorn down there" the same bull is yours "i killed a real nice mature 5 point" it's tough to keep up with the lingo and semantics of hunting

"on the landscape" has become one of the most overused and annoying phrases in my opinion. Not sure why it pisses me off so much but it does.
you need to channel your inner Bob Ross.... embrace the landscape and those who grossly overuse it.... like most things related to hunting, it's EPIC (another way overused word) "bumping that doe today while glassing for elk was EPIC!" "that stalk i didn't even get close to pulling off was EPIC!"

"the mountain house chili mac shits i got last night was EPIC!" "those wet wipes you gave me last night were EPIC!"

everything is epic!

I usually require some tragedy potential before something is epic, but trust me, the mountain house chili mac shts really were epic.
i didn't pick that specific meal randomly.... if there is anything in this world i can count on, it's mountain house chili mac making my guts boil and an emergency at some point before 9am the next day.... it's a conversation piece these days, i would assume eat anything else sleeping in the woods... is it edible? yes... is it an enjoyable meal? maybe a stretch, but it's ok.... is it worth the wet wipe pandemic the next day? nope!

it's like they put an ounce of msg in the chili mac just to screw with people

😂
Maybe I have iron guts. It doesn’t bother me. It isn’t the tastiest meal, weighs 5 1/2 ounces (single serve meal) and at less than 106 calories per ounce not a top pick.

Speaking of which. I’ve weighed and figured calories per ounce for a bunch of single serve meals. If anyone is interested in the results PM me.
