Proud Dad brag:
My son age 12 and I have been shooting precision rifle matches for a few years. Last year he won some certs to build a rifle. He had to come up with the money for the scope the chassis and the half of the action. He sold Firewood all year and was able to get his rifle built. We shot some great matches here in Montana in preparation for hunting season. Finally when hunting season arrived he could not wait to get out. We were asked to remove some does from a ranchers hay field. When we arrived at the field we found a small group of does feeding at 775 yards. We sat there waiting for the deer to feed closer. As we were waiting I spotted a coyote enter the field 180 degrees from the the deer. I asked my son if he wanted to shoot a coyote and there was no hesitation. I ranged the coyote st 630 yards I asked his his wind call, to which I agreed with and he let the 6.5 PRC bark and the coyote flopped. He was pumped. After taking the shot the deer never even moved. I asked him if he wanted to take one of the does, he rotated around to the deer, checked his dope made his wind call and said “shooter ready.” I laughed and said “spotter ready send it.” This doe went down with a perfect high shoulder shot. He jumped up and gave a shout! He was elated.
It was great to see all the time and effort we spent at matches and the range pay off.
He was also able to harvest a great Muley buck at 250 yard off the tripod after hiking in 2.5 miles from where he spotted the deer.
I think it is safe to say he’s hooked for life.
