The 6UM

Another 6UM entering the chat… Just picked up from Unknown Munitions yesterday. They killed it on the cerakote. Range day tomorrowView attachment 955597
I did the 6UM-30 with a 20" barrel and TBAC Ultra 7. This thing is awesome - almost no recoil, stays on target, low noise. Win, win, win. I shot 100 yard groups today to do some preliminary load dev. Initial results with 115 DTAC in ADG brass loaded to 2.950" below.
62 gr N570 - 3028 fps, sighter
62.5 gr - 3057fps, 0.7MOA
63 gr - 3105fps, 0.7MOA
63.5 gr - 3135 fps, 0.3MOA
64 gr - 3176fps, 1MOA
64.5 gr - 3212fps, 1MOA

Hey 6 UM dudes, I’ve been following this thread and the podcasts since it came out. I wanted to wait and see how it aged, also for components to stabilize. Pretty much ready to jump on the band wagon, but have some questions and that’s a lot of pages to go, though I’ll slowly go back through them.

What twist has been settled on?
Everyone using 115 dtac’s exclusively?
N570 seems to be the go to powder, other than retumbo, anyone try n560/565, RL26, etc?
What speed deficit/or benefit between the 6UM-30 vs blowing out to 40?

Edited to add, is the easy button with brass, the 6-30? Seems so, just not sold on if the 30* vs 40* is worth it?

N570 is the powder for 115gr DTAC nose ring bullets.

The 6 UM reloading thread is a sticky in the reloading forum. I tested quite a few powders there.
N570 is the undisputed king for the 6UM. H1000 is an option if barrel life is a priority, I'm going to play around with that more soon.
Fire forming is easy, I think the 40 is worth it.

Can you tell me who does?
Thanks

Hoover precision arms has a reamer in northwest Montana. He’s spun up all of mine for me. It might be worth throwing out a general area just so people can narrow down which smiths would be easy for you to work with. I’m guessing there’s quite a few reamers floating around at this point but I could be wrong.

For the 40° you are probably right. If somebody wants the 30° though, I’m not sure that many smiths have a reamer for it.

I am in the Northwest. I am the problem. Once I get a build in my head, I am a very much a“instant gratification “ guy. 5-6 month turnaround times don’t do it for me. Yes, I get it, that is how this industry rolls. I just want to be able to smash a Coues Deer in January with a 6UM.

Well if you’re looking for a 6um 40 he’s your guy. He’s always good with turnaround times and I’ve had him chamber a pile of rifles for me all with great results. Let me know if you want his contact info. He is on instagram as well but I’m happy to link you up. He’s located in Columbia falls Montana.
