The 6UM

We do prefits for Tikkas and BATs. BATs are spot on with consistency and Tikkas are pretty good. It is still best to have the action in hand. We also have 6 UM-30 reamers in stock at this moment.

Whidden has the 6 UM-30 die making reamers so you can order the dies from us, but it still takes about 10 weeks.

I have had a set of dies on back order for a while now and have brass and an action. Just need to get the barrel. I understand that have the action in hand is always preferred. Just surprised it’s required considering the consistency of so many custom actions and that so many other gunsmiths and barrel manufacturers offer prefits. It is just an extra hassle and cost for the customer. I’ll probably get a reamer and have my smith spin up a prefit now that they are available.

Not all other custom actions are that consistent, and we arent willing to risk doing a mediocre job. Not to mention the hassle that happens when the prefit doesn't work. We do get prefits that others have done in the shop that don't headspace. I think we sent out one Tikka prefit one time that wouldn't thread onto the customers action. That wasn't a heaspace issue but a thread spec issue, which wouldn't have been an issue if it had been in the shop.

What we do offer is if a we chamber a barrel for an action other than BAT or Tikka, we record the measurements. If we have that we can then do a prefit to those same measurements.

BTW, actions not being conistent in how they headspace has nothing to do with their accuracy.

I have a rem 700 with you right now getting built into a 6um, I believe you are machining the feed ramp right now. Will you be keeping action measurements for that to be able to do a prefit? When I talked to Alex in sales I requested that and he said you don’t offer it

E-mail all that to me at [email protected] and I'll make sure we keep the measurements for you.

I understand your concerns with head spacing a prefit. I’m not attacking the business decision. Just surprising that so many smiths and barrel manufacturers offer a wide array of prefit barrels and UM doesn’t.

Anyone have case neck measurements of a loaded 6um round with the 115 dtacs in the adg head stamped 6um 30 brass? Trying to figure out which neck bushings to order for the whidden die.
