The 6UM

That's Impressive Tx_6UM!!! I gotta make a decision.... 6UM or 6CM?!?!?!?! I wish I had a reloader setup cuz it'd make this decision easier!

Simple you need both:)

If you already have a trainer I would go with 6UM if not 6CM. You really can't do much training with the 6UM. If your shots on animals are rarely past 500 yards I would also get a 6CM.

Oh I know I need both but the CFO probably won't approve my expense report :ROFLMAO:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both the 6CM and the 6UM built on a short action? Therefore I could start with the CM and upgrade to the UM later if I feel like it? That's assuming I use an action that I can swap bolt faces with (thinking the Origin action for a build).

I'm not proficient enough yet to take game past 500 yds so I'm thinking the CM will help me get to the point of longer range proficiency and then I could screw on a UM barrel to increase my effective yardage. Make sense???

If you want to sneak in the 6um down the road buy a Tikka. 243 8 twist. If you feel the need for more horse power open the bolt face and have them run a 6 UM reamer in and you have a 6UM that sneaks by the kitchen boss because nothing visual changed.
You basically swapped the cam on an economy engine and gain some hp.

Eventually you will have the option of buying a Tikka clone bolt that will have a changeable bolt face. It will make these upgrades even more simple.

If you don’t reload then there really is only one answer and that’s 6 Creed. Fairly inexpensive and good factory ammo is everywhere, decent barrel life and it kills just fine. It’s easy to get wrapped up in hot wildcats (speaking from experience) but in reality its a fairly small % of people who are really making full use of that extra couple hundred FPS.

Sometimes to make myself sick I like to think back on all the money I have spent on barrels, dies, reamers etc and then think of the animals that resulted from all that money spent and how many could have just as easily been killed with a easy and cheap to shoot 6 creed lol.

Is anyone running an 8 twist 6 UM? Any data?

How did you do that without a RokStok?

I’ve had one on order since 7/21/24

I can stay on target at 14x at 100 yards with this setup probably 50% of the time. With as well as it shoots it’s going to make it difficult to switch when it finally shows up.

You will swap. I'd wager once tracking info is received you are pulling the barreled action in anticipation

following this same process, can the new 8 twist 243 tikka become 6 creed? I wish Tikka was faster at adopting new chamberings.

The 6mm Creedmoor has been a C.I.P. approved cartridge since 2022. It can be found in their catalog of cartridges. Tikka is just slow to adapt.

They supposedly retooled and have added new options and chamberings. It's possible we could see a 6 creed if it is now a cip cartridge.
