Because it tends to kill better/faster when non broadside shots are taken when seen in very large numbers of animals. It won’t really show up as a noticeable difference in a few animals.
Now, some combos create a wound channel that is so large it doesn’t matter- high impact velocities with a 178gr ELD-M for instance. However, when looking at the elk I shot with the DTAC in this thread for instance, and it’s impact location and velocity, a 77gr TMK would have created a far larger wound channel- though it likely wouldn’t have exited.
A very round wound channel such as high impact velocity from a 108gr ELD-M would have also caused more damage, but it would mostly have been in the inside lung and stomach. At the same impact velocity (1,940fps) the ELD-M behaves similar to the ELD-X giving a bit longer, though not as wide wound.

Did I miss it earlier or is there a specific reason that Bergers are left out of the discussion?

Well for me it’s that I do not prefer a long neck length, and they won’t exit either. They certainly kill well.

So far I have witnessed/shot elk, nilgai, pigs, axis deer, and WT deer with NR Dtacs. 24 total animals(mostly pigs) Outside of a cow elk that I shot low, none have made it more than 30 yards. So yes @Formidilosus you are picky.

But I want to shoot an elk in the shoulder at 40 yards with a 108 ELD-M cause I am told it will just blow up. :)

Not really too frangible. The ELD-M has more of a round shape to the wound channel which is quite effective, whereas the ELD-X is typically more of an elongated football. That football shape wound is the one I am looking for.

Any of them would be perfectly fine for killing- ELD-M, ELD-X, 112gr MB, Hornady 105gr HPBT, DTAC NR, etc. I am just being picky.

I have not seen the Hornady 105 HPBT mentioned much before. Is this HPBT more predictable then others?

I have used it pretty heavily in the 243win. Behaves about like a Berger, but penetrates a bit deeper. They were consistent in tissue with giving exits in deer.

What cerakote color did you go with to pair with nitride?

That +P barrel wouldn’t shoot so it got scrapped. The barrel on it now is not coated, I needed it fast!

No Berger options fit the bill?

A small ten year old girl used the 6UM on a
Cow elk. The shot was 350 yards. The elk was broadside the shot was through the lower third of the lungs the exit was dramatic. The 6UMs biggest attribute might be the lack of recoil for a round with this much pop.

You gotta love those 6mm's!! Sure a nice looking rifle you built. This is a picture of my son with his first elk he shot with one shot at 350 yards with his Ruger MKII in 6mm Remington. It was taken with a 90gr. Nosler E-tip at about 3200 fps. He hit her tight behind her right shoulder and the bullet exited the center of her left shoulder. She staggered about 20 yards and tipped over. 6mm Remington's a good one too!

would a 6prc loaded with 570 shooting 115gr bullets out of a 20 in barrel be able to hit 3100 fps MV without pressure signs??
Like the idea of a fast 6; not wanting to fireform brass for a 6UM

What tikka factory magazine are you all using for the 6um? From my understanding the factory 300wsm magazine is too short and the 300 win mag magazine seems long.

I think so.
Fireforming is literally the easiest part of the process. Using a worn out blank as a forming barrel, 50 cases takes less than 30 minutes with the Titegroup method and can be done at home.

My last big game hunt of the year with the 6 UM. Coues deer at 470 yards. I added .1 MIL when the buck starting walking out of cover but shouldn't have. He was quartered away uphill for the first shot which hit him high through the shoulders and dropped him. Caliber sized entry, golfball sized exit. Shots 2/3 were while laying broadside. I first shot over him, then hit him through the spine mid-body (that's as far forward as I could see because of brush). Basically a baseball sized wound channel all the way through on that one.
115 DTAC NR Deep Cut, 3400ish at the muzzle.

I feel like you all aren't showing the pics after the animal gets up and runs away from being knocked over by a tiny bullet. Not nice to cut into them and then let them walk!
