Great question. Seems the bullets are the common denominator and seem very picky...

So I got a few of the new 69 ELDVt bullets. I loaded them up and ran a ladder velocity test using N555 powder. Hornady lists 45.6 as max for N555 and 68/69 bullets. I started at 44.5 and went up to 46.5.

I then loaded a few at 46 grains.
Shot a few at 100


Then I shot 3 shots at 500.

What's the consensus on rechambering a Tikka factory barrel to 22cm? Is the barrel life as good as prefits and shoot as well? Worth doing?

My rechambered tikka barrel to 22creed has been great has over 600rounds through it now. Running it hard in hot weather 5-10 shot strings and it still shoots 1.1” 10 shots groups at 100 with no tuning to my original load. Although it has lost some velocity.

I don’t think it’s a problem for either the bullet or the cartridge. Some rifles just don’t like certain bullets. If eldm or x’s don’t shoot just switch to Sierra or berger if either of those don’t shoot it’s probably a barrel, gunsmithing, or shooter/reloader issue.
My tikka 223 8” and 22creed from a reamed out tikka 223 8” bbl both shot the 80eldms eldms great. The creed shoots .7” 10shots groups with no load development when new. It’s also shot 5 3shot groups at 750yd that were 1.2-1.9”. The .223 shoots 5 shot groups in the .3s at 100 with the second or 3rd load I tried.
My 7.5” twist 22arc shoots 88eldms great with factory ammo. Your 7.7” twist bartlien should be great for eldms or if you want to rechamber a tikka that’s a good cheaper option also.

In general, I think bergers have the potential to shoot better but Hornady’s bullets can shoot great too. If you measure the bearing surface consistency between both brands in several calibers and bullet lines for each it becomes more obvious why that is. I have never been to a bench rest match. But when the highest accuracy requirements are needed I doubt competitors are using eldms majorly to compete. But hunting accuracy requirements are much more forgiving in comparison of course.

So what’s the best performing Berger 224 hunting bullet for 22 Creed?

I have only killed stuff with the 80gr eldms and 90gr SMK’s in the creed. I tried the eldms first and they were cheap, have a high bc, and shot well right off the bat so I had no need to try another bullet as they performed well terminally also. I have berger 85.5gr LRHT’s and 80.5gr full bores but haven't shot anything with them yet.

I would start with the 80.5gr fullbores. They’re designed for competition, to feed well from magazines, and they have a less aggressive tangent ogive that’s generally less sensitive to seating depth. These designs are generally much easier to tune for accuracy at the cost of having slightly lower bc’s than vld profiles with secant ogives.
