The 22 creedmoor thread

Loaded up 5 rounds of 77TMK at 2.56” COAL with 40.0 gr of H4831SC and the group shrunk drastically. Average speed was only 2786 with no signs of pressure.

Should I bump my charge weights and see where that puts me or just load up 10 more of these and roll with it if it the groups stay tight? For now this gun will only be a 500 yard and in gun.

What say you guys?

What barrel length?

What barrel length?
16.5”

I’m going to keep pushing. I did a little more digging in this thread and it looks like there’s a handful of guys that are running at 42 grains of H4831 with this setup. I’ve always been overly cautious about loading too hot. But it seems like I have a lot of room to work.

I thought this was the 223 thread for a moment. I shoot the 77 TMK or 80 ELD-M at 2800 from an 18” 223 with 26.0 of N150 with no pressure signs.

You should be around 3100 with those from your 22CM, even from the 16.5” barrel.

I have two 16.5’s, the 77gr TMK load I just settled on is just shy of 3100fps with 42.7gr N555. I got very very light extractor marks at 43.0. I was hoping to use Varget but was was getting those light extractor marks around 3050 FPS with 35.7gr and poor case fill.

Ive shot several deer with both the 80 Eldx and Eldm now (3250 fps). Am preferring the Eldm at all ranges. The Eldx can pencil for no apparent reason. The Eldm always penetrates and expands.
Thanks for the feedback. Typically, I would go with the M's as well, but in this barrel, the X's shot just a little bit better than the M's. If I'm not satisfied with the terminal performance, I'll load the M's.

42 grains put me at 2920 average. But I’m getting some ejector marks.

Hodgon data shows 41.2gr h4831 with the 77tmk at 61,600 with alpha brass.
The peterson you’re using has less capacity so your pressures will be much higher but it was worth a try to see where you pressured out.

The 16” 22creed I loaded 80gr eldms for was pushing them 3000 with h1000. But I could have pushed them faster with a different powder.

I ran 80 eldms in a 16” 22arc at 2980fps
And I can run 77tmks right at 3100fps with my 18” 22arc using 31gr of powder.

It would be interesting to see what velocity your rifle ran factory 80eldms. They ran 3050 in the 16” I was shooting.

I was getting 2950 with the factory 80eldx. So it’s very possible I just have a slow barrel. I only have about 50 rounds through it so far so there’s still room for it to speed up some.

I have a couple pounds of H1000 on the shelf. I’ll see what I can do with it. If that doesn’t improve anything I’ll just go back to the H4831 and drop back a little. I was getting good groups and for now the speed gets me to where I need to be. I can play around a little more later.

I shot 42 of h4831sc in alpha and Peterson with 77 tmk and 80eldx. Right around 3000fps for both

How many rounds on your barrel?

I think I’m at 65 rounds through the barrel so far.

I would shoot more till your at 120-150 rounds with your 41 grain load, clean the crap out of the barrel, fire some foulers at 41 grains and do a pressure ladder to see whats appropriate in your rifle.

That barrel may speed up but my 42 grain load made ~3000 fps with 77tmk and 80eldx.

Grand appears to be another Staball variant. Should be really good! I've had a lot of luck with 6.5 in the 6.5. Actually it was the only powder the oem Sig Cross liked.

Im thinking about having a 22 cm barrel spun up.

What is the point of that low recoil if you can’t even tell if you are hitting or missing your target? Is this a legit concern? With the wind around here I feel like it’s going to be an issue. A heavy .30 or 7mm bullet throws up a big dirt cloud.
