Sorry to bring back such an old post.. do you have any updated results using the 88gr? I intended to run the 75gr ELDM but my rifle shot the 88's much better.. 18" @2900fps so a little slower than I was hoping. Coyotes are the main target, but the goal is to have as close to a "do all" rifle as possible. Thank you!!

Just like cutting any other barrel. As long as the gunsmith does a good job with the crown it has no negative impact. My rechambered tikka barrel was cut to 18" and shoots plenty good.

Barrel blanks get cut at both ends every time they are crowned/chambered, cutting it a little shorter is no different.
If I was trying to save pelts on dogs I wouldn’t use ELDMs personally. They certainly kill then dead but can be messy.
88s, if your gun shoots them well, are fantastic “do all” bullets for killing.

What bullet do you suggest for coyotes ?
For killing? Any of them. I don’t save pelts. I normally don’t even go up to the dead dogs unless it’s close.
The only state where I don’t leave them laying where they died is in MN where we get $40 for the tails most years.
If you truly want to save pelts, shoot a 17WSM or HMR. Or with your 22 creed shoot them in head.
204 Ruger with the 32 Vmaxs works well for pelts in most vital shot cases.

The DRT is very destructive- meat loss is as heavy as most of the tipped match bullets. If meat loss is the concern, but you want better wounds than monos give, the 75gr Swift Scirocco is what I would try first.

Yea I was just curious I’ve been using 80 grain Berger’s and they have pretty good on fur Might try some 75 ELDMs this winter thou

My small sample size with 75eldms has been good. Only bad one was a gut shot that ripped it wide open. Frontal and behind shoulder have been minimal damage. The new 69 grain Blitzkings might be worth a try. I run the 50s at 3800 out of 22-250 night gun and have had one “splash” out of a sample size of 75-100.
Has anyone here tried Blitzkings on medium/big game?

Playing with that Grand and some 88's. Doing a 10 shot feeler after getting it on paper. Velocity was all over the place so I'm hoping it's just the load and not the gun.

I ran 90smks with 47gr of grand 10thou of the lands with fed210s. That was .5gr away from a light ej mk on Hornady brass. The 88s have roughly 25thou more bearing surface. So I would try 2 3 shot groups with 46&46.5 just to see what accuracy looks like there. As long as you have pressure tested the 88s and know that’s going to be safe in your rifle.
I think powders like this can be erratic at lower pressures and load density’s. But that does look pretty rough on paper at what I assume is 100yds. Was that all the same charge or a pressure ladder?

Hahaha I'm a dumbass, ha not to state the obvious.
My mlok screws for my arcs were touching the barrel. I tripped checked them before I left the house to make sure they were good. Somehow maybe the barrel settled in the action or something and two were touching.
Still looking for a decent load. This is h1000. Slow AF and sloppy. But not stringing so I'm happy

88's aren't looking good. Best 10 shot feeler was 1.75 moa
Grabbed a pound of n565 to try. Then had some Retumbo.
Went ahead and ordered some 80 eldx.
Pretty sure the barrel doesn't like 88's because I tried about every powder.
Is there a big difference in n560 and 565?
Tried 570 but those huge sticks in the little case neck was a no go.

8 twist? That's what 75s in my 9 twist look like. Some people on here get an altitude boost in stability others dont get.

So when I reinstalled my arca rail on my Cross, I double and triple checked that the screws weren't bottomed out on the barrel.
They were good. But shooting not sure what happened. Was having a full on anxiety attack
Took the rifle back to the tailgate and looked everything over. Sure enough somehow two of the screws were touching the barrel! Popped the arca off and just used my Game Changer on my tripod with the legs splayed.
Last night I ground down the screws and there's no way they'll ever touch.
Just glad it was something simple but also mad because I know better haha
Did you try N555? That’s one I want to try. I think N565 is just a little slower burning but has better temp stability.

Been messing with trying to find a load for the 75 ELDMs. This load im shooting 44 grains of N555. 3460 fps. Here is a pic of a 7 shot group. Everytime I shoot the 75’s Most group tight but I get a few random flyers? Any idea if it’s just the bullets or my gun doesn’t like them?

Might have to load up 20 88 eldms and a max charge of n565 and revaluate with a larger sample. Speed looks good. Wind picked up and was kind of all over the place at about 10-15. Not optimal.
Tried a grain under and it was pure
. My 80 grain eldx will be here in a couple days. Probably should go ahead and order some TMKs. Then just pick a few of the more potentially good powders with each bullet.
