Here's 12 77 TMK for the first time in the same gun that shot the 88s yesterday.

The 77s have 39.5gr H4350.

The 77s are carelessly (is carefreelessly a word?) seated at the same depth setting as my hand loaded 88s were set at with no regard for jump in my bootleg 6.5 creedmoor brass that was loaded with a powder drop.

The 88s from yesterday were loaded in nearly perfect Petersen brass and probably all trickled at 39.3gr H4350 based on a few I pulled just for curiousity.

It just has me wondering if a priority to neck turn is really "a thing" at least for hunting purposes.

I strongly dislike turning, and sold my neck turner planning to never do it again. Then I got a brass-chamber fit that was too tight and had to borrow one.

I spent at least $500-600 trying to get dud to shoot this summer. Lesson (slowly) learned, maybe,

I've been playing the middle of your parameters based on crap I read on the internet. I loaded to 2.680 with lands touching at 2.700.

The 88s generally shoot well either with a slight jamb ( and no, they don’t get stuck) or a big jump, like .050

I've been dubious about seating depth for the last year or so...just logically...it has to matter somewhat at the extreme ends of the range, but all the factory ammo is pumped out with no regard for all the variable reamers (and variable reaming) and I bet reloading is performed by a niche of shooters within a niche.

I should have asked you what you consider jammed before I did this but here's 2 groups:

PVA barrel, 1:7 twist, long chamber...lands measured at 2.700 with 88 ELD

I pulled 10 of my 2.680 loads and reseated them 2.705". I pushed on 10 of my 2.680 loads to put them at 2.650".

10 shot data set...says yeah.

I'm going to mash on the rest of my loaded ammo and shoot some deer with them.

Maybe come down .1 on zero...probably not.

I was just wondering if you saw a change in speed. I'd imagine you'd see higher cartridge pressure but a lower peak pressure due to the increased jump. Sometimes I think you get better accuracy due to lead engagement and bullet engraving. Maybe it is lead angle differences or bullet jacket hardness but that is just my theory as to why a bullet that won't shoot well with a middle jump will do better with a big jump or no jump at all.

Interesting.
My chamber touches at 2.750”, and I was getting lackluster groups with 88’s when I tried them at 2.760, and slightly better at 2.730”. (By lackluster, I mean that 10 or 15 will land in 1.1” consistently, but it won’t match my 223AI or 6.5 cm which will halve that.)
Tried some 77 TMK for giggles that were at 2.600” and they were absolutely stellar, and more in line with what I expected from the rifle.

Seeing as sheep season started Aug 1 here, I just ran with the 88’s and called it good enough after running it out to 600 yards and mass produced enough for the season, but looks like I should squash 20 of them down to 2.700” and see wtf this weekend.

I’ve done my share of jamming, mostly in the past. I usually do ~ .025” past touch, for what it’s worth. Don’t go straight there if it’s at all hot, and do check your ability to remove a loaded round.
